Kandy Sketch Walk - 26th October 2025
The second of our Sketch Walks took us to the hill capital, Kandy. In this remarkable, world-renowned city, we were truly spoilt for choice when selecting locations. We were privileged to partner with the Kandy Municipal Council and the Queen’s Hotel for this walk.
Our main concerns were the weather and navigating a large group through the city’s busy, narrow sidewalks. Fortunately, the weather held, and while managing the group was challenging at times, everything ran smoothly overall.
Our guides, Yusuf (from Ceylon Hotels Corporation) and Udara (from the University of Peradeniya), enriched the experience by sharing fascinating stories and insights into the rich history of the locations we visited.
The iconic Queen’s Hotel graciously hosted participants for morning tea and refreshments. Our group sketched both inside and around the hotel, including at the Coffee Planters’ Fountain and several other nearby spots.
Our final stop was a grand Dunuwila walawwa, now home to the Kandy Municipal Council. There, we had the privilege of meeting the Municipal Commissioner, who was very supportive of our work. We concluded the walk by presenting tokens of appreciation to the council, the hotel, and all those who supported the event.
