LANGUAGE BARRIER
LANGUAGE BARRIER
Since the educational system of Udonptittayanukoon school was already plausible there were just little challenges that I have to pass through in order to have a successful teaching journey. Language barrier was the biggest obstacle that I had to combat during my stay. Learners in the Science and Technology Department were using Thai as medium of instruction, and so it posed a big challenge for me. Thankfully, my cooperating teacher was using English as her medium of instruction on her grade 8 Chemistry, Special Science Class. At this point, I have to deeply adjust my choice of English words in order for my learners to grasp the idea of what I was discussing or explaining. Their vocabulary were very simple and basic and so, I have to simplify all of the contents of my lesson. I also tried to learn Thai but I only learned some basic words. Nevertheless, during my implementation, my learners did great for they did their best to follow my instructions and analyze our lesson.Â
While the language barrier has become a splinter for exchange students like me, it is not insurmountable. Educational institutions and exchange programs play an important role in providing students with the necessary assistance and resources to help overcome linguistic barriers. Udonpittayanukoon contributed to my psychological and intellectual progress by establishing a supportive atmosphere and stimulating cultural interchange, transforming the language barrier into an opportunity for learning and enrichment. And so I can proudly say that I did it!
