SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
The teaching procedures in Thailand, particularly on Udonpittayanukoon school focused on the development and growth of learners. The science and technology department in which I was deployed unto includes the lecture and laboratory classes. The lecture classes which roughly estimates from 1 to 1 and a half hour is where the teacher discusses the lesson which was more likely to be teacher centered. On this portion, I noticed that students in Thailand do not recite that much unless you tell them to do so.
On their 3 to 4 hours laboratory classes, the learners are given the full authority to take charge of the learning phase. The preparation of apparatuses, chemicals, learning materials and cleaning all of the things they used are responsibilities of learners. Through this, the learners are pushed to be disciplined and cautious enough, making learning progressive and purposeful. The occurrence of all the needed materials inside a classroom maximizes the time and technicalities needed in order to finish a lesson. Aside from that, there are also separate big laboratories in which all supplies of Biology, Chemistry and Physics are kept and taken care of.
When I did my practice and assistantship week, I made sure to utilize all the given resources so that learners can acquire quality education under my wing. I enjoyed venturing on the different learning styles of the Thai learners and I also incorporated motivational activities thorough Filipino cultures and ways. I did the game Hephep, Hooray! and I was happy to see smiles and laughter of learners. Since they were quite not used to becoming participative and loud during discussions, I tried my best to caught their attention through giving activities that could heighten their excitements.
