The Violet island Group hasbeen inhabited for all of written history, with experts theorizing they were first settled by human and non-human tribes some 72,000 years ago. This happened during the last ice age, when sea levels were low enough to expose land bridges and form short sea crossings between what is now southeastern Shamat and northeastern Argos. Among some of the oldest cultures in what is now Lavia are Rukati, Manzaro, Makan, Inox, and Rasami. These cultures had over 536 unique societies by the time of 1754. While these tribes were situated in a somewhat central location between the continents of Vespuria, Argos, and West Shamat, the societies remained void of most technological advancements past bronze age weaponry, with the exception of scarce visits from traders originating from Southern Shamat allowing for the proliferation of small amounts of firearms and other items.
These cultures were based around connection to the nature of West Argos. Many worshiped gods of seas and other similar elemental gods, with the cultures establishing balance within the food chain and local environment. Maintained by natural paintings, oral traditions, and celebrations of their beliefs, the many cultures maintained a constant balance. Examples of sedimentary farming societies are rare in Western Argos, however they did exist alongside the various semi-sedimentary and nomadic hunter-gatherer groups. The aforementioned visits from traders were sometimes met with reluctant friendliness although most tribes were violent to outsiders, contributing to their isolation from the outside world.

Colonialism would arrive in western Argos for the first time on April 3rd, 1754. The Three Seas Lavinsworth Company (TSLC) was a merchant and exploration based company founded and controlled at the time by Llyndorran Governor Theodore Lavinsworth. The expedition, led by his son Steven Lavinsworth (better known as Sir. Lavinsworth), would end up arriving on the island of Raparia, in the northwest just under the island of Primank. The area would be proclaimed the settlement of Rorack, and the process would begin to bring other settlers and resources to the area. First contact would be with the Nomane, a sedimentary tribe focused on fishing and gathering. The contact was peaceful, with settlers trading small trinkets and blankets for foods and furs of local animals, however it introduced Elyseran diseases to the native population.
True expansion by the TSLC would take place after kickstarted by the "Rorack Raid," an attack by the Kaffa, a nomadic tribe, on the colony. July 28th, 1754 marked the day where a small group of Kaffa hunters faced the garrison of Rorack, being cut down by the company's trained soldiers. The TSLC would respond with a very aggressive campaign of expansion, shipping in arms-for-hire and colonists which were promised land on the island. These colonial company soldiers and colonists led by Harry Rainsville would go on a 11 year campaign marked by various atrocities and mass killings of natives. Very little tribes were spared, with the friendly ones which were spared being integrated, although almost 65% of them were killed by colonial diseases. The campaign would end in March of 1765, with a small amount of outlying islands being unconquered for the time being.
During the time of this campaign, Sir. Lavinsworth would use his father's connections in the Llyndorran government to receive more and more guarantees from Llyndorra's allies and even the king himself. These guarantees would help fan his ambitions to establish his own Kingdom, with the large import of Elyseran workers giving him a solid base of Rorack to rule from. Trade and farming would become large earners for the TSLC, with the tropical environment making for the perfect place to plant coffee, sugarcane, tobacco, and numerous other luxury goods meant for export to Llyndorra and other Elyseran nations. The position in the world also provided an advantageous position, acting as a base for other explorers who wished to emulate the TSLC. This style of company governance would continue for an additional 10 years as Sir. Lavinsworth gathered support and agreements from nations.
Finally, on August 5th, 1775, Sir. Lavinsworth proclaimed the Kingdom of Lavia with the backing of the crowns of Lllyndorra, Hydronia, Thyven, and Flosechia. The new kingdom would quickly create a Llyndorran style parliament with a few variations, having Rorack being both the base for the parliament and royalty. Primank would be chosen to be the primary base for the military, and many TSLC mercenaries would join the new army and navy, giving the kingdom a good base of experienced soldiers and sailors to defend itself and expand further into Argos. While the kingdom was mostly considered as a Llyndorran colony by most Elyseran nations, it was in fact an independent from the beginning, although the Lavinsworth family's relation to the Llynodrran crown would keep them mostly friendly with only a few hiccups throughout the time of the kingdom. Relations with the empire would also be crucial, as it was the main trade partner of the young kingdom until global trade expanded during the later half of the industrial revolution.

Now finding himself at the throne of a new kingdom, King Steven would look to quickly look to expand the young nation as quick as possible. His first official royal order would be to establish control over the unclaimed Manzarno, Makinar, Rasami islands as the nearby large Virginia island had been claimed by companies, many which hailed from Monteflur. Forces would brutally colonize Manzarno island, mirroring the colonization of Raparia closely. News of this military conquest would reach the islands of Rasami and Makinar before the Lavian forces could consolidate enough to land on them, resulting in King Vienalo, the leader of the most prominent nation on Rasami gathering a diplomatic mission consolidated of most of the island's leaders and sailing to meet this invading force and hopefully get some kind of deal.
This meeting would eventually result in the Rasami Governance Treaty in 1780 giving the Kingdom of Lavia control over the island while the native nations would be integrated with a moderate level of self governance, even affording them a representative in the Lavian royal council via declaring the island an official state instead of a territory. Scenes like this happened sparsely throughout Makinar and southern as well, with the combination of these annexation treaties and bloodshed resulting in the conquest of all the desired islands by 1794. During this campaign, the kingdom underwent it's initial transition from many settlements tied together via ports to rapidly growing cities attracting Elyseran and Vespurian settlers looking to claim land as well as wealthy industrialists who constructed much of the colonial buildings in Lavia, turning costal towns into young, burgeoning cities by 1796.
During all of this, the TSLC would sponsor an expedition to form a new colony on Westmore island, known at the time as Kantona. The colony would be settled quickly in 1776 as many wished to emulate the vast land fortunes many early settlers on Primank had amassed as a result of early settlement. The colony would expand and be a large source of Lavia's iron supply, feeding new factories and allowing for the construction of wide rail networks to transport the supply of the ore. The colony would expand to it's pre-golden war borders by 1834.
A little earlier in 1784, West Shamati traders began sailing to the northern part of Raira, trading things such as multicolored linen blankets with Lavian soldiers. This eventually opened up diplomacy with the Kingdom of Swabati, expanding trade and increasing Lavia's diplomatic weight. King Steven and King Kavavenga would become very good friends during talks of trade resulting in the Ketu friendship treaty (1787), leading to Lavian influence somewhat contributing to the Swabati kingdom staying free from interference from Elseyr and Vespuria.
However, by 1790, Kings Steven was 75. Being especially old for the time, especially for a monarch, he would decide to step down and hand rule over to his son William I. King William I was 47 at the time of taking power, and oversaw a large part of Lavia's industrial revolution. Between 1790 and 1821, Lavia would use the resources from newly conquered islands to fuel the forges and factories rapidly expanding across the kingdom. Shipyards were also built en-masse during this time, servicing and building ships for traders which frequented the new nation, exporting goods to Elyser and Vespurias. King William I would also establish the Royal Lavian Arms Company to begin the process of standardization in the Lavian military and begin militarizing Primank island, which stood guard of both ways to the port of Rorack. Construction of Seger Military Grounds, a large military base and star fortress, would begin in 1809, only finishing the initially planned fortress in 1833.
Along with the industrialization, William I would also pass Lavia's first native rights act, the Argos Peoples Bill, in 1801. The bill granted native peoples in the kingdom's territory civil rights similar to those held by settlers, with the stipulation that they cooperate peacefully and integrate into the Elyseran style society established in Lavia. This was a landmark for native rights in the Llyndorran colonial territories of Argos, however it did experience wide pushback, requiring lengthy police enforcement until the 1860's. This would be one of the last of King William's laws, as he would die due to a heart attack in 1803 at the age of 60, the crown passing to his son Prince Oscar, who was 31 at the time of accension.

While the Second Corridor War was a short conflict with no large impact on the world, it lead to Lavia growing exponentially closer to the Swabat state and eventually integrating the kingdom into Greater Lavia. After the end of the Saefi Empire, the multiple families of high importance from the now collapsed empire rose to make their own nations, specifically founding the Swabati, Wituli, and Sabratan kingdoms as well as many smaller ones, many falling to time, infighting, or invasion from eachother. The first war between the Swabati and Wituli kingdoms would happen in 1756 as the "Corridor War," with the Wituli invading the "Jerusalem corridor," a small strip of land claimed by the Swabati kingdom connecting their shaky hold of Jerusalem to the sea. A coalition consisting of the Union of Rosenmarkke and the Vespurian Catholic Volunteer Corps (VCVC) assisted with the defense of the corridor, resulting in a small mount of land being taken from the Wituli kingdom as well as some strained relations with nearby Muslim kingdoms for the involvement of Vespurian and Elyseran forces in the conflict.
After the Corridor War ended in 1759 and up until 1812, both states would experience significant military buildup, as well as occasional border clashes near Jerusalem. The Wituli would annex multiple nearby states, expanding their borders north and preparing for another attempt to invade the corridor, finally being prepared in March, 1812. The main external power participating in the war would be Lavia, drawn in due to a clause in the Ketu Friendship Treaty and having a small amount of troops already stationed in the kingdom. The start of the war would see the Wituli cutting off Jerusalem and besieging the city, establishing a hard defensive line south of the city to prepare for a Swabati advance. While a contingent force fought the Wituli defensive line, the Swabati and Lavian navies were busy at work clearing the waters of Wituli ships of a daring naval invasion, which would land in July, 1812. After the landing, forces would be sent to the corridor so to break the siege of Jerusalem as well as begin a pincer movement, pushing in from the corridor in the east and the naval landing in the west.
By early 1814, the Wituli military was destroyed. It's army was on the run, pillaging and looting it's own towns and cities to survive as it fled north trying to escape the enveloping pincers, and it's few remaining ships were restricted to a port besieged from the land and sea. Surprisingly, the Wituli royals didn't sue for peace or surrender, they simply fled north and disappeared. Many historians suspect they either fled to pre-unification Dhornaper or were simply killed by their royal guards, and as of 2028, their remains still have never been found. Due to this power vacuum, the remining land held by the Wituli in Febuary 1814 either fragmented under self proclaimed leaders trying to rule their own country or soon fell to Swabati forces. The land held by the Swabati would be annexed and marks the mainland Shamat land held by the ULR today, and the northern territories of the Wituli would eventually be absorbed by what would become Sabrata. Politically, the war would only reinforce the diplomatic ties between the kingdoms, eventually leading to political marriage and the integration of the Swabati Kingdom into the Kingdom of Lavia.

The march of progress in Lavia did not stop during the Second Corridor war, and the nearly 40 years of peace after only enabled civilian innovation, progress, and prosperity. Multiple inventions would come out of the kingdom during this time, such as the Seaver Engineer's Gun (also known as the Seaver Cartridge Shotgun), the first commercial steamboat, and the sewing machine. Emigration would continue to grow the population at a rapid pace, with vast swathes of land being cleared for ever expanding towns and cities. With quick expansion and industrialization, New Rorack became a bustling port city and capital, housing what was at the time the royal compound and a large amount of the nation's elite at the time. However, the city's large use of the wood and very few brick buildings, along with the factories located along the east bank, made the city a tinderbox. This tinderbox would ignite on the day of July 7th, 1831.
The Rose-Kelly Flower mill, located on the east bank of the Rainsville River, suffered a dust explosion followed by a larger secondary explosion. The secondary explosion caused the roof of the five story mill to erupt into the sky, with flaming rubble raining down on the nearby streets and buildings. These pieces of rubble caused multiple smaller fires which quickly spread to more and more buildings, many of which were constructed of only wood. Fanned by the strong winds that day, these fires would quickly spread to nearly the entire east bank of the river, causing many to flee either across bridges to the west bank of the city or to the shore if able to. The fire would rage for almost 38 hours, only being put out by a rainstorm in the early hours of the morning of the 9th of July. Miraculously, the wind would keep blowing east, almost completely preserving the west bank of the city other than the now thousands of homeless people sheltering in various hotels and wherever would offer safety.
With nearly 43% of the city destroyed and the Kingdom funding rebuilding as well as temporary housing, the city would have the opportunity to truly decide how it would rebuild. Royal army engineers as well as city planners and contractors were hired by the city to plan out the most optimal city layout, which resulted in the first planned city in Argos. The east bank would go on to rebuild in tidy blocks with wide, paved streets making room for carriages and newly introduced horse drawn trams. This would go on to become the leading example in city building for the kingdom, heavily influencing new expansions in the industrial cities of Makinar even down to the small emerging towns. New Rorack would be mostly rebuild with brick, including a new train station as well as a steamboat dock. These two new additions would help revolutionize travel in New Rorack and would spread to the rest of the kingdom at a rapid pace, with early steam engines spreading throughout Lavian land, connecting cities and allowing for quicker travel than could be completed ever before, and commercial steamboats providing access to countless riverside towns, mines, and industries. This would all be mostly over seen by King Fredrick, who became king in 1824 at the age of 29 after King Oscar died from measles in January of that year.

The Golden War would become Lavia's first major geopolitical fiasco, almost severing the kingdom's closest ally, losing an important mining colony, and forever ruining King Fredrick's reputation. The incident had been brewing since the 1820's as more immigrants moved to New Aberdeen and Regalia, resulting in illegal border settlements inside Kantona as the large and relatively unimportant border to the Lavian crown lacked any proper enforcement. The issue worsened after the 1846 discovery of gold in South Aberdeen, only encouraging further illegal migration into the border region although most of the immigrants were under the impression they were still within the borders of the Llyndorran Empire.
Being made aware of the issue in 1848, King Fredrick began a campaign to begin taxing these illegal settlements in the attempt to make them somewhat legal, enforcing the taxation attempts with the threat of imprisonment, deportation, or reposition if they didn't pay. These tax collectors were not formally civil servants as a company of the Royal Kantona Guard was assigned to the task to protect the collectors from violence as well due to their knowledge of the local area. The only civil servant in this tax collection force was an official royal cartographer who would help identify if a border town was inside the borders of Kantona. Expectedly, these taxes were very unpopular within the border towns. During this attempt, Lavian and Llyndorran diplomats were locked in talks in an attempt to defuse the situation, however that fuse would be lit on New Years Day, 1851, when a battle between the garrison of a border town and the RKG company resulted in the town being almost completely burned and more than 40 militia members killed or wounded.
The wider geopolitical community didn't expect either sides to actually take large actions and speculated the declaration was a symbolic action to bring Lavia to the negotiating table with less leverage, however King Fredrick didn't see it as such. It was his belief that, despite the royal family's close relation to Llyndorra's own royals, this was a ploy to cripple Lavia and make them dependent on Llyndorran imports. While the army was gathering and sailing to ports in Kanatona, the RKG would be ordered to viable border positions and would make the first real advances of the war once the main army was finally close by. The first real operation would begin in May of 1851 with the KRG launching a wide campaign to annex the mostly undefended border regions, only held by a few Llyndorran garrisons and militias. While the Lavian army was supposed to let the KRG do most of the work, the Llyndorran colonies had formed a contemporary army to defend against this wide advance, forcing the Lavian army's hand to participate in the battle which would later be known as Yulara Run, named after a creek where Lavian troops assaulted the Llyndorran camp. Yulara Run would result in a rousing early success for the Lavian army and KRG, with the KRG's rangers (calvary using heavy pistols) inflicting heavy casualties on Llyndorran soldiers scrambling to get their weapons and defensive positions. Even though the Lavian side experienced somewhat considerable losses, the battle was considered a great success for King Fredrick and the KRG. The KRG would experience great success overall in this operation, annexing a significant amount of border territory as well as deporting illegal settlers who refused to pay taxes to these annexed towns, commonly only allowing them to take belongings needed for survival and taking the rest as payment for the unpaid taxes. While executions did happen during this time, they were few and far between and normally relegated only to those who fired upon Lavian civilians in retaliation for the invasion.
May of 1851 would see the Llynodrran army arrive and begin pushing back as the Lavian army mustered, leaving the KRG to handle most of the fighting against a more impressive foe. While the KRG would lose a significant amount of land they had taken, this was to allow for the Lavian army to make a spearhead advance and split the two Llyndorran colonies, cutting off a united chain of supply and increasing the time for supplies to reach New Aberdeen significantly. Fighting would remain roughly along these lines from August, 1851 to January, 1852 as Lavian forces nearly outstretched their supply lines to achieve the split and required further supply to be brought up before making the next move. Llyndorran forces would advance south as the Lavian army held the split, further battering the nearly exhausted KRG. Back in Lavia, King Fredrick's brother, Prince Rowan, was pressuring him to try to get Fredrick to the negotiating table. Rowan could see that if the war went badly for either side, it could lead to them loosing an extremely powerful ally, exactly the one they were now at war with. The public was already restless as many of them had relatives in Llyndorra and her colonies, some even in New Aberdeen and Regalia, and a longer war would only make the situation worse for the government, not to mention casualties.
King Fredrick would do the exact opposite however, ordering General Mardochée Picot to advance and capture Coores, the capitol of New Aberdeen. New Aberdeen would be pushed from both sides, losing significant amounts as well as needing to become a military mandate of Regalia after the capture of it's capitol on February 28th, 1852. The furthest extent of Lavia's gains would be seen by the success of this operation, however despite General Picot's attempts to reorganize his logistics chain to comply with the king's order, the Lavian army lacked a reliable supply chain and supplies were already heavily depleted by the offensive. The Llyndorran army however only built up more and more supply, dealing a serious blow to the the Lavian army at the Second Battle of Coores, forcing the retreat of General Picot in May of 1852. By September of the same year, both the KRG and the Lavian army had retreated so far south that Marigold City, the second main supply hub for the colony behind Southgate. Battered and bloodied by a bullet, General Picot would send his second in command, Lieutenant General Levi Redfield east with a sizeable force as well as much of the remaining KRG to retake the area north of Marigold City. Redfield would arrive in late September and lead a charge on Trentwell using his Joachim Halen Model 1846 Revolver, capturing the town as well as Puckaperra to the northeast in mid December. He and his forces would defend this territory till mid February, 1953, when the king ordered them to fall back and defend General Picot's retreating army as well as fortify Marigold city.
During Redfield's defense, General Picot was caught in a pincer movement after naval raid on costal areas in the south turned into a full blow naval invasion by early December. He would retreat to Southgate by late December, and in mid January, 1853, the bloodiest battle of the war would occur. The Battle of Southgate marred both sides, nearly shattering the invasion force and dealing the final blow for Picot's army in the west. The colony's government evacuated to Marigold City alongside the army, heading to set up a war cabinet in Marigold City. While naval combat was always expected during the war, it surprisingly didn't break out. Llyndorra had practically the most powerful navy in the world at this point, but didn't want to risk the remaining goodwill between Lavia's navy, which was commanded by Prince Rowan. Each would have multiple faceoffs, but no shots were fired between navies throughout the war in large engagements, with small battles happening with no decisive victory over the other nation. Many historians think that if there had been large naval combat, Lavia might have been able to defend Kantona and hold out long enough for a white peace.
By this time, the war was wildly unpopular in Lavia, and King Fredrick had finally conceded to his brother Rowan. The kings of both nations met, along with their advisors, and for two months they debated and argued untill finally, on the 25th of April, 1853, King Fredrick and Queen Victoria signed the Kingsmount Armistice in the Commonwealth of Vespurias, handing over the Kantona colony officially to Llyndorra, in turn for reparations and Lavia retaining the mineral rights to the iron ore in what would later become the Hinterlands, Regerton, West Bank, Gilmore, (Metro) Southgate, Combes, Waverly, Hyrule, Kierley River, and Kantona districts of New Westmore. General Mackelby and his staff would meet General Picot and his staff as Lavian and KRG troops boarded ships to Lavia, with the generals exchanging swords as a show of respect and goodwill. This spawned a tradition which is still practiced between Llyndorran, Westmorian, and Lavian military ceremonies to this day. Lavian civilians would leave along with the army, however most of them being guaranteed their jobs with the agreement of mineral rights stayed in the region, creating a large Lavian population in Southern New Westmore to this day. Many KRG troops would stay as well due to having families or being born there, and as they were the default law in the wilder regions of Kantona, they would be pardoned by the Llyndorran and colonial governments, becoming sheriffs and rangers with their iconic Halen revolvers.

After the Golden War, King Fredrick abdicated the throne and handed it to Rowan, under the stipulation that his granddaughter, Princess Verónica, would take up the throne once she turned 20. The deal was agreed upon, and a now Prince Fredrick would take a ten year old Verónica to visit relatives in Vespurias between 1853 and 1856 after her mother passed away during child birth and her father passed away due to blood cancer just a year earlier in 1852. Her stay in Southern Vespurias revolved mostly around Alfouana, the capitol of the Lavinsworth province. She would take an early fascination with naval ships, and while the ladies of the house together with the family tutor attempted to teach her the ways of which a lady of the court should behave, Prince Fredrick supported her interest. This went to the extent of him taking her aboard ships during naval exercises, teaching her how to command a ship as well as navigate, and even paying a local tailor to make her an officers uniform complete with hat, shoes, and small sword.
In 1857, the pair began what Queen Verónica would later call a " little educational expedition." This would see them visiting Rosenmarkke and Montfelur during the Belgrade War, often times visiting frontline camps and chatting with generals from both sides of the conflict. The princess would take many lessons to heart during her time observing the war, from tactics to what makes a good weapon and the importance of new technology to how important trains are to supply lines. Additionally, she would purchase a pair of dueling pistols custom fitted for her which would later become a staple of her outfits. Verónica was quite fond of these pistols, practicing dueling by using paper wads as ammo. The trip would end with the war, and the pair would travel back to Alfouana in late 1858 before returning to Lavia. She would also buy a revolver after returning, which would play a role in news that made her a national sensation.
In 1861, an 18 year old Princess Verónica would have an attempted assassination on her by one Rodger K. Hathway. Hathway was a considerably narcissistic man with a quite odd life story, and his assassination plan was in revenge to the government not granting him the job of diplomatic representative to the Swabati. He would buy a revolver and on May 24th and wait for the princess near a cafe in New Rorack. As she walked up to the cafe, Hathway would stand up from his table and fire three shots at the princess, hitting her once just to the left of her right shoulder. Seemingly stunned by his target not collapsing, he froze in place as the princess simply pulled her own revolver and shot Hathway six times. Four shots hit his chest, one hit his neck, and one hit him square in the temple, rendering him dead immediately. The princess would be rushed to a hospital where the bullet was extracted from her, however she would ignore the doctor's orders and went home the same day, refusing to recover in the hospital and choosing to do so in a seaside home.

Princess Verónica would become Queen on July 3rd, 1863. The ceremony was quite the sight, as while the Queen regularly expressed disgust at court life and the drama that came with it, the royal family spared no expense on the event. Many royals from Elyser and Vespurias visited to see the spectacle, which included a gun salute from three ships, a military parade, and many of the best items and produce made in the kingdom. The royal family also hoped that Verónica would find a suitor at the celebration, however despite talking to many a men, she remained uninterested in those she met, posing a worry to the more conservative minded members of the family that she may never be married. Finally, at roughly 4pm in the afternoon, King Rowan removed the crown from his head and placed it upon the head of the princess, proclaiming her as Lavia’s first Queen. After a speech, the celebrations continued and eventually led to the queen having to be partially restrained after striking a Monteflurois noble for insulting her grandfather.
Queen Veronica immediately got to work after the pleasantries were over. She passed many reforms from 1863 to 1868, including the Women’s Rights Act, which gave women the right to own property apart from their husband’s during marriage, the right to vote in local elections, and many more rights which greatly advanced women’s suffrage movements in a short amount of time. This brought significant pushback from certain parts of the nation, but it would be enforced anyway. This was paired with the formation of the "Royal Woman's Corps" which was aimed at enticing women into rear-line positions such as cooks and field hospital staff. The queen herself would attend many of their meetings, serving as their promoter for enlistment and encouraging widows or destitute women to join as way to keep themselves busy and get them back on their feet. Other reforms she passed include the Arms Modernization Bill, the Funding for Public Railways Act, and the Bill for the Establishment of National Reserves for Wildlife and Wilderness. These acts would have a great impact on the nation as a whole, and were some of the most progressive laws in the world at the time.
The military would see radical change, with the AM bill (1863) widely modernizing weaponry and causing Lavia to adopt quite innovative designs. The Talon M1855 carbine (Burnside carbine) and RLAC M1859 (Springfield M1861) would be replaced with the Talon M1863/Geryati Carbine (Spencer Carbine) and RLAC M1864 Trapdoor Rifle (Springfield 1865 Trapdoor Rifle), with the Lavian crown buying the license for the Geryati carbine from United Commonwealth of Wuloosya. The Geryati carbine would be joined in 1865 by the Hickok M65 lever action rifle (Winchester M1866), which improved on elements from the failed Geryati Model 1861. The majority of infantry would be equipped with the RLAC M1864 and scouts, calvary, and the RJR would be equipped the Talon M1863 and Hickok M65. These force multipliers would help put down a native uprising on Makinar in 1869, proving deadly for the rebels equipped with flintlocks and percussion cap rifles. The push for progress would continue throughout this period, with the kingdom being an early adopter of the bolt action rifle and the first adopter of the Lavian designed Stoyan machine-gun (Maxim gun).
(something about the navy building steel ships, because chuds haven't decided when the first ironclad battle happened)
Queen Verónica's ambitions would run much higher however, looking to gain any amount of land for Lavia to recoup for the significant loss of land from the Golden War. Despite it's proximity and quite alluring nature, the island to the south or Raparia, Virginia, was already claimed by multiple Monteflurois nobles wanting to have their personal colonial playground. She didn't want to go after them, not just yet at least. They still held quite a grudge for the coronation incident, and ruffling any more feathers threatened the recovering relationship with Llynodrra. Taking these effects into account, she would turn her attention north to the Kingdom of Swabat. Them and Lavia had been very close allies for 80 years by 1867, and this was secured even further by political marriages to the highest level. And thus, she set her sights on the Shamatite kingdom.
Be it through lucky timing or political intrigue, the aging leader of the Swabati died in his sleep and left the kingdom to his young son, nine year old Azhar. Being his distant cousin, Queen Verónica elected herself to be his mentor, using this position to influence policy and pay off many court officials to prepare for her plan. By the time Azhar was 18 in 1876, Queen Veronica had perfected her plan. Her careful indoctrination of Azhar, the bribing of court officials and the alienation of those who didn't play along, would all pay off the day after his coronation. On April 4th, 1876, King Azhar announced that the Kingdom of Swabat would integrate into the Kingdom of Lavia, forming what historians would call "Greater Lavia." This move would be met with wide resistance amongst the populace, but once both local police and Lavian military units would be deployed to quell rebellion, Queen Verónica would put now Royal Governor Azhar in charge of the state of Swabat, and his close friend Murtada in charge of the state of Ijesa.
The next 11 years of Queen Verónica's reign would focus on integrating the Swabati into the Lavian legal system and merging both ways of life. Firstly, all people in Swabati territory were given full Lavian citizenship, no matter what status they were under from the just now past Government. This led to a few cases of tourists who were visiting during the change getting Lavian citizenship, but overall the transition was pretty steady. The hard part came when it was time to enforce Lavian law. Land rights, the way towns governed themselves, taxes, almost everything changed, which many didn't like for many reasons. This lead to the 1877 "Riots of Cheria," a string of incidents within Cheria county, Ijesa from April to July of 1877. The event would begin with the town of Ain Retba burning down the house of the local tax collector, causing the governor to deploy the local militia to the town in order to enforce the tax code. This worked only for two weeks with multiple confrontations between the militia and rioters resulting in no deaths, but worries were beginning to spread in the government that the militia would side with the rioters. In turn, a royal army unit was deployed to keep the peace. Multiple riots would happen from May to June with no deaths, however would result in 12 locals and three soldiers injured from various reasons, as well as a house inhabited by soldiers being burnt. The largest confrontation would happen on the 2nd of July, where rioters attempted to enter the compound which the unit had been housed in. A small battle would begin, with both sides trading inaccurate gunfire as most of the rioters fled from the street where the skirmish was happening. This would result in one soldier dead, one wounded, and two rioters dead with five wounded. The event would escalate the issue to the queen, who personally mandated a negotiator to the town to finally resolve the conflict, as she worried word of it would spur other towns to emulate it. An agreement would be met and signed by the queen so that all Swabati citizens of Lavia would pay 20% less in tax for 10 years, with it going to 10% less for the next 10, then finally back to the mandated tax 10 after that.

Following the war, The aging King William stepped down at the age of 73 in 1826, handing the crown to his son, Michael, aged 51. Michael would however pass away soon after at the age of 56 from what would later be confirmed as liver cancer, leaving Lavia to his son Fredrick (aged 26) in 1831. Fredrick, taking after his grandfather, would marry Owana Kavana (descendant of King Kavavenga), strengthening ties more with the Swabati Kingdom. He would also establish the Lavian National Museum in 1833, and spend much of his personal fortune on historic artifacts. His reign saw a length of peace and prosperity, with many ideas and inventions taking root. With the industrial sector in the south, the north would develop into an agricultural, travel, and educational area. Containing many universities, farms, and resorts along with the ports that serviced trade ships and cruise liners, the north attracted mostly upper class people from around the world. The crops grown were mostly food for the purpose of shipping to the southern islands, with some farms producing cash crops such as coffee, cocoa, and tobacco for the resorts and for export.
The establishment of the Free City of New Dalesburg in 1855 on the island to the east brought yet more trade to Lavia, providing many goods to the city. The Lavian crown did see a good ally in the expanding colony, but they kept communications cordial and decided to wait and watch on what would happen. Other than this, limited government involvement wouldn’t throw off prospectors wishing to make it rich by mining the land of Westmore. Lavia would however offer some aid to the Golden Revolt of South Westmore in 1873 which saw miners, including a significant number of Lavian miners who moved to prospect on gold, revolt from Southern Westmore due to outrage at mining fees and corruption. This aid would include old weapons to equip the revolt, as well as food to ensure that the revolt wouldn’t starve. In return, if the revolt succeeded the Lavian government would gain resource rights to some land as well as the payment over the term of 10 years. The oversight of this deal would fall to Queen Verónica at the age of 23, after King Fredrick would die at age 71 in 1876.
The queen’s reign would see a large emergence of women’s suffrage movements, pulling from her being Lavia’s first queen due to King Fredrick only having one son, who died at 47 in 1852, and the Queen was his only grandchild. Queen Verónica would first disapprove of the suffrage movements using her as a symbol of power as she wished to keep the status quo, however she would later endorse them and in fact hold many suffrage meetings at the royal palace. Although the counsel disapproved of suffrage laws they would eventually pass the 16th charter amendment (aka the suffrage amendment) in 1863, giving women equal rights as well as amending succession of the royalty to the elder child of the monarch, instead of preferring the male for succession rights. The advancements of women’s rights would lead to the establishment of an all female army corps, and later an all female army flying corps.
Another staple of Queen Verónica’s reign would be Lavia’s relation with the Oceanice Republic. She viewed King Fredrick’s inactivity during Westmore’s Golden Revolt as a critical error and wanted to expand Lavian influence across Argos, with the emergence of the new Oceanice Republic as a way to grasp her vision. Immediately sending diplomats to the republic, she proposed an alliance to secure shipping lanes and the rights to export food to the republic. This diplomatic mission ended in success, with the Prime Minister of the new nation (Bismarck Eric) proposing the Makinar Straight Agreement (1877), which the Queen would accept. This agreement divided Argos, giving Oceanice full expansion rights to whatever mainland territory they could annex, as well as the Auroria Archipelago. It also allowed for favorable export terms to the new republic however they would maintain control over the pricing and distribution of goods imported from Lavia. Finally, the two navies would conduct joint training exercises and collaborate to protect shipping routes. With diplomacy established with the republic, the queen would turn her ambitions to the military.
From 1880 to 1893, the Lavian Royal Army would be transformed into a much more professional force. The queen would form the Lavian Royal Militia (later renamed the Lavian National Guard in 1904), replacing the army in the duty of guarding the homeland in times of peace and other irregular obligations such as security for government sites. She would also introduce mandatory military service for those at the age of 18 for two years, giving every citizen military training through the national guard as well as bolstering the nation’s reserves. Although the army would stay volunteer only, it would be much more specialized and trained. The queen would also establish a new branch of the Royal Arms Company, that being the Advanced Weapon Division (1882). This division would import, examine, and reverse engineer weapons that were recently invented or assigned to militaries across Erene. Through this division, the Royal Irregulars (later the Army Special Operations Corps) would be supplied with their iconic lever action rifles, and the army would be equipped with bolt action rifles earlier than most of the world. Although the navy went through some changes, they were not nearly as extensive as the ones that the army went through.
During the reformation of the army, Queen Verónica would set her sights on the fractured settlements of the island of Virginia in the middle of 1882. The island was mostly occupied with independent port city-states, with a consolidated settlement called the Virginia Free State on the eastern tip. Queen Verónica would offer the city-states a simple choice, either join the kingdom and gain land on the island of Virginia as well as become a county in a new state, or the Lavian army would occupy the city and agree with the proposal anyway. Naturally, most of the city-states accepted this deal, with the exception of the Virginia Free State and two other city-states that consolidated with them to form the country of the Virginia Free States. This would lead to a war starting in 1895 lasting a year and six months. The two city-states would capitulate quickly, with the Virginia Free State offering up the only real resistance. Although Lavia experienced light casualties, the navy bombarding the ports of Virginia would cause a small famine which resulted in civil unrest and a quicker capitulation. With nearly all of their country conquered, the Virginia Free States would finally capitulate and become part of Lavia in 1896. The Queen was surprisingly lenient with the conquered government, allowing most of the leaders to become mayors or occupy low level government jobs. At this time she would also establish the position of Royal Workers Advisor, a position very similar to a Union representative. The Royal Workers Advisor would inform her about the conditions of workers all across the nation and also talking with the newly formed unions.
Almost directly after the Virginia war, Queen Verónica used her ancestry, the fact she was married to Besar Rohani (a powerful noble), and the benefit of being the ruler of both the kingdom of Lavia and the kingdom of Swabati to fold the Swabati kingdom into Greater Lavia in 1897. She instantly guaranteed equal rights to swabati citizens, as well as a slower integration of lavian laws and other governmental processes than were seen in Virginia. Although there was some pushback, it was largely accepted due to the ancestral ties. This addition would add the final two stars to the flag for Greater Lavia, giving it its final total of six stars. This integration also provided the kingdom with an additional location on a major shipping lane, allowing for capitalization of the prime area.
By 1898, Queen Verónica was 45 and looking to cement Lavia’s influence more in soft power, and the Kingdom of Lonaco gave her the exact thing she needed. The kingdom was seeking recognition and the backing of a sizable country, paired with a political marriage to further cement the relations. This was accomplished with a marriage between Dasa Lavinsworth (one of Verónica’s daughters) and Prince Leopold, as well as a treaty outlining Lonaco adopting Lavia’s legal framework, collaboration between shipbuilding and textile industries, as well as the establishment of an economic zone which allowed for Lonaco to import raw and processed goods from Lavia with ease. In return, Lavia would aid in the modernization of Lonaco’s railways and ports, aiding in the modernization of Lonaco’s military, as well as providing multiple warships to bolster its navy. Both nations also benefited diplomatically, giving Lonaco significant backing and Lavia more influence in Elseyr. (Under work, more to come once WW1 and 2 history is done for Erene)
