All Clans have ranks. These are the official rankings of the clans.
Rank
Description
Leader
The leader is the head of every clan. They make the important decisions that happen, they lead the Clan into battles when needed, and they speak for the clan, especially at gatherings. They hold ceremonies in the clan, for naming warriors, starting festivities, and more. All leaders gain nine lives, and earn the suffix -"star"*.
* Note: In FirClan, Leaders may take on the suffix -"watcher" Instead if they refuse nine lives.
Deputy
The Deputy is the second in command to leader. They are the ones who organize patrols, help make decisions as an advisor to the leader, speak for the clan at gatherings, and ceremonies when the leader cannot. They will take over when the former leader dies*.
*Note: In PineClan, The deputy will not take the leader's place unless they have direct bloodties to the former leader. The Clan will vote a new leader, a direct bloodline to the former leader, in.
Medicine Cat
Also referred to as a Healer, Medicine cats have extensive knowledge of the land's herbs and how to use them. Healing cats is their main purpose, and interpreting StarClan's signs, prophecies, and omens is their second. They stand aside in Clan battles, fights, and rivalries, especially as they are not to be attacked. Most healers do not have fighting training, and have a meeting of their own outside of clans. Every half moon, Medicine cats will meet with all the other medicine cats of the clans, to visit, share information, share herbs, and share tongues with StarClan at the Moon Gully. Medicine cats may take on an apprentice to pass on knowledge.Â
Warrior
Most cats within a clan are considered Warriors. Regardless of the rank name they have. All warriors hunt, fight, and patrol borders. They train apprentices to become warriors, work hard for their clan, and take on a variety of suffixes unique to their personality, skills, and abilities. As warriors grow older, they may be considered Senior Warriors as they gain apprentices, experience, and knowledge. They are more often seen chosen to lead patrols and training sessions. Warriors make up the majority of a clan, and when they're too old or unable to do their duties, they may retire to become elders.
Apprentice
These cats are young and in training. They must be at least 6 moons before they begin training and are assigned to a warrior, often of the specialty warrior rank of their choice. Warriors teach them how to properly hunt, fight, track, patrol, and care for the clan. Apprentices tend to have duties commonly referred as apprentice duties, such as collecting bedding, clearing elders of ticks, replacing bedding. They can begin to go to gatherings, hunting patrols, explore the territory, and more. When they have had enough training, typically from ages 11-14 moons and up, they may go through an assessment, and receive their warrior name.
Queen
Queens is a non-permanent rank within the Clans. Most Queens are warriors expecting or nursing kits, however non-expecting and non-nursing cats are sometimes seen in this role. While very rarely, some cats become permanent queens of the clan, this is typically seen in a clan's better times, as they may still be needed as a warrior despite their permanent Queen status. Queens share care of all kits between them, and are exempt from clan duties until their kits become apprentices.
Kit
Commonly seen as the heart of the clans, Kits are young and growing. They are cared for by queens, and live in the nursery. They are all under the age of 6 moons, and will often be seen play fighting, listening to elder stories, practicing moves in camp, and rarely, mischief in trying to get out of camp. When they are 6 Moons, they become an apprentice, and may be trained by a warrior or, if both the medicine cat and kit wish to, trained by a medicine cat.
Elder
The most well respected individuals in a Clan. Elders often have advice, stories, and experience to share. Elders often retire due to old age, or severe injuries that prevent them from doing their warrior duties. Some Elders may request a change of name when they retire, and others not so much. Apprentices are usually the cats who take care of them. Typically, Elders chat with other elders in their den, tell stories to kits and apprentices, and can be occasionally seen leaving camp to stretch their legs, and rarely, hunt. Warriors may come in for advice, and sometimes they can act as a council to the leader, deputy, and medicine cat when requested.
Most ranks within the clans are warrior specialties trained in the clan cats, and thus, not really a rank. However they do have notable specialties and duties. Mediators fall under this category, as they still have their warrior duties.
Rank
Description
Ice Dweller Warrior
[YewClan Specific]
These cats still have all regular warrior duties, however are specialized in the traversal of ice fields, snow dens, and avalanche rescue. While these cats have skills for their body strength and make for amazing fighters, they are designed for hunting. These cats can still act as regular warriors, and have skills inclined for the fight and ambush, however, they must be always on alert at the notice of a Snow Watcher's word, and must always be ready for a hunt on the fringes of the ice fields. Ice Dwellers are trained in hunting under the snow, the slippery ice fields, and are specialized in tunneling under snow.
Snow Watcher Warrior
[YewClan Specific]
These cats still have all regular warrior duties, however are specialized in watching the skies, checking snow for weakness, and as messengers between cats, and they often have the fastest feet of the clan. They still act as mostly regular warriors, with skills making for great hare hunters, they must ensure they're checking the skies for cloud patterns, wind patterns, and traversing any new snow for dangerous conditions on the daily. These cats seem to be the most aware when the mountains nearby are close to having an avalanche, afterall it's still dangerous even in the clear flat valley.
Moon Climber Warrior
[PineClan Specific]
As with any specialty warrior rank, they still have all general warrior duties. These cats are specialized to traverse the world at night, climb trees, climb cliffsides, and mark for quick escapes under avalanche conditions. They act as typically regular warriors, with the focus upon climbing and night time. While they make for great warriors, they must be constantly aware of how to rescue cats into higher mountaintop trees during an avalanche. Though some argue that the trees are a terrible place to go, these cats have to find the best trees for these safety measures.
Sun Carver Warrior
[PineClan Specific]
These cats still have all regular warrior duties. These cats are specialized to dig at the earth, check snow sturdiness, traverse caves, and serve the clan at daylight. They act as safe guards to knowing when an avalanche is imminent, yet still act as regular as can be. In Greenleaf, they dig tunnels to find prey, and herbal roots for the medicine cat. These cats appear to be able to hunt graciously without sight, and are taught caving etiquette and signals without sight. Easily regarded as a hard specialty, as they must be adaptable to not using sight in caves.
Sun Howl Warrior
[FirClan Specific]
Daytime regular warriors, these cats are specialized for water rescue, Ice hunting and path clearing. These cats are notably great land hunters when they're not checking water levels, clearing paths between rivers, and breaking ice for fellow clanmates to hunt. Paths should be kept clear as when the snow gets too high, it can impede them. Ice may sometimes need to be broken above river water to begin hunts, and water levels must be checked when the snow and ice begin to melt.
Moon/Sun Warriors
[FirClan Specific]
While not specifically a specialized rank, Moon Warriors are average generalized warriors that are up at night, and Sun Warriors are such the same but at day. It's important to note that FirClan's warriors will always be classified by Moon or Sun, to represent the times they are typically awake. Some warriors will talk to the leader and shift on whether they are a Sun Warrior or Moon Warrior dependent upon their friends, family, and situation.
Moon Howl Warrior
[FirClan Specific]
Nighttime regular warriors, these cats are specialized for water rescue, Ice hunting and path clearing.
Mediator
A Role found when the clans are at war. Often a clan will pick a cat to attempt to mediate between clans. Their duty is to settle disputes within the clans, and between clans. Unlike the books, this role is a temporary role, selected by leaders during a gathering. When the war is over, a cat is relieved of the role.
Not really ranks per say, but rather noted ranks imposed on by the cats within the clans. However, sometimes, rogue/loner groups may have ranks. In which case, they will have their own section.
