Warrior life in the frozen lands is often enriched by the ceremonies done by the cats. This page contains a description of what each ceremony is for, and the typical format it is called out in.
This ceremony typically takes place at the moon gully and is where the new leader takes on nine lives and their new leader name. Each life is given by a different cat.
Life giver touches their nose to the top of the new leader's head, and says "With this life, I give you [gift]. Use it well [to, in, as, for, and so on-] [use of gift]."
After the final life has been given, usually the previous leader will speak.
"I hail you by your new name, [prefix]star. Your old life is no more. You have now received the nine lives of a leader, and StarClan grants you the guardianship of [clan]. Defend it well; care for young and old; honor your ancestors and the traditions of the warrior code; live each life with pride and dignity."
When a deputy retires, dies, or in some other way leaves this rank vacant, this ceremony is used to appoint a new deputy.
The leader usually calls out these words.
"I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors [or former deputy] may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of [clan] is [warrior]."
This ceremony is used by Medicine Cats when they are giving a medicine cat apprentice their full name.
The Medicine Cat begins this ceremony at the Moon Gully.
"I, [name], Medicine Cat of [clan], call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. [pronouns] has trained hard to understand the ways of a Medicine Cat, and with your help [pronouns] will serve [pronouns] Clan for many moons. [apprentice], do you promise to uphold the ways of a Medicine Cat, to stand apart from rivalry between Clan and Clan and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life?"
Here the Medicine Cat Apprentice responds with: "I do."
Then the Medicine Cat finishes it off with,
"Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your true name as a Medicine Cat. [apprentice], from this moment you will be known as [name]. StarClan honors your [virtues/personality traits], and we welcome you as a full medicine cat of [clan].
Afterwards, the Medicine Cat will rest their muzzle on the apprentice's head and the apprentice will lick the mentor's shoulder. The other Medicine Cats then begin to greet and call out the new name of the apprentice.
This typically occurs when a warrior chooses to retire from their duties. This ceremony is usually informal, and
The ceremony starts after the leader has been informed, wherein a clan meeting is called and the leader says,
"Is it your wish to give up the name of a warrior and go to join the elders?"
The warrior replies, "It is"
Then, the leader finishes the ceremony with closing words. While these can vary, the most blanket statement that can be given is,
"Your Clan honors you and thanks you for the service you have given. I call upon StarClan to give you many moons of rest."
These ceremonies typically occur when a cat no longer feels represented by their name, whether it's a dislike, something they wished to bear in remembrance, injuries, or otherwise. For the most part, this ceremony can be considered very disrespectful to either the individual or for others.
The Clan Leader must call for a clan meeting, wherein they say the following.
"Spirits of StarClan, you know every cat by name. I ask you now to take away the name from the cat you see before you, for it no longer stands for what they are. By my authority as Clan leader, and with the approval of our warrior ancestors, I give this cat a new name. From this moment on [pronouns] will be known as [name], for [reason]."
When an Apprentice passes their assessment or in rare cases, makes a very important contribution, the Leader may call a clan meeting. This ceremony makes an Apprentice into a Warrior.
The Leader calls out,
"I, [name], leader of [clan], call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. They have trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend them to you as a warrior in their turn.
[apprentice], do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"
The Apprentice replies, "I do."
Then the Leader continues,
"Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. [apprentice], from this moment on you will be known as [name]. StarClan honors your [virtues/personality traits], and we welcome you as a full warrior of [clan]."
The warrior's vigil needs no words. It is something that is started at either day or night, dependent on their schedule. Day if they're typically up at night, and night if they're typically up at day. The vigil is done in complete silence and new warriors guard camp in this silence.
This vigil can be seen outside of just a new warrior. typically when mourning or honoring a deceased clanmate.
This ceremony is used to appoint a new apprentice and assign their mentor to them. Before a leader can assign a mentor to a new apprentice, they will typically find out what the kit may want their specialty to be before they get their mentor. Once this is confirmed, the Leader will call a clan meeting.
The ceremony starts with the Leader calling the kit up first, "[kit], you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as [name]. Your mentor will be [warrior]. I hope [warrior] will pass down all they know on to you."
Then, the leader calls up the mentor, and begins, "[warrior], you are ready to take on an apprentice. You have received excellent training from [former mentor], and you have shown yourself to be [virtue/quality] and [virtue/quality]. You will be the mentor of [apprentice], and I expect you to pass on all you know to [apprentice].
Then the Apprentice and Mentor touch noses, and the clan calls out the new name of the Apprentice.
This ceremony is used to get the Apprentice's confirmation they wish to be a medicine cat after the Leader has already appointed them as an Apprentice. This is done at the Moon Gully. By tradition the following string is used.
The Medicine Cat speaks, "[apprentice], is it your wish to enter the mysteries of StarClan as a medicine cat?"
The Apprentice replies, "It is."
Then, the Medicine Cat continues, "Then come forward."
"Warriors of StarClan, I present you with this Apprentice. They have chosen the path of a Medicine Cat. Grant them your wisdom and insight so that they may understand your ways and heal their Clan in accordance with your will."
Usually seen when a cat dies. While the ceremony itself may vary from clan to clan, there is a consensus on how it starts.
The Clan leader will call a clan meeting, and say the following.
"Cats of [clan]. We have lost a valuable clanmate today. I call for StarClan to welcome [deceased] into their ranks. [pronouns] was [virtue/personality trait] and [quality]. We will miss [deceased].
After which, whatever else may be said by clanmates or actions be taken by the clan's respective choices may occur.
This ceremony is exclusively seen in YewClan. Wherein the Leader and Medicine cat will bless young kittens within the confines of the camp, permanent or temporary. This blessing is done in belief it will increase a kit's chances of survival.
The Leader and Medicine cat will call a clan meeting together, and call the 2 moon old kits forward alongside their caretaker(s). The Leader begins,"[kit (list if needed)], come forward."
"I, [name], call upon StarClan to give strength and [quality] to [this/these] kit(s)."
The Medicine cat will approach and put their nose on the forehead of each kit, and for each kit, will say the following, "I trust that StarClan will light your life, and that you will excel in life. StarClan is delighted by your [personality trait], and sees your innate strength. May you continue to be strong."
After which, the Clan may go back to their duties.
This ceremony is exclusive to PineClan. It started in Leafbare, typically in early leafbare. Held in memorial of Pineconestar and a celebration of PineClan's status as a clan, The leader may come out and call a clan meeting.
The Leader begins, "It is a new Leafbare, and a time to begin the New Beginnings Festival. StarClan, I present to you the clan before you. For they have done many things since the last Festival. We honor the strength and fortitude our founder, Pineconestar, has instilled in us, and honor our capabilities as our own Clan. Under StarClan's eyes, let the Festival commence."
This ceremony is exclusive to FirClan. This ceremony calls to an apprentice who is of age and ready to be assessed to be a warrior. Rather than the mentor sending them out, the leader and clan do.
The Leader calls a clan meeting, and begins, "[apprentice], Come forward."
"[apprentice] has shown great abilities in [pronouns] time as an apprentice. Though [pronouns] trials have yet to begin, I call upon our ancestors to watch over this apprentice as they begin their trials. [apprentice], we will miss you over these next 3 days. [mentor], you have trained them thus far, and will watch this apprentice in these times. Watch [apprentice] well."
The clan will say their goodbyes to the apprentice, and wish them good luck. From there on, the mentor will take the apprentice out to the survival trial location.
A lot of this information came from the books, and otherwise sites with this information. Some of them were copied and pasted from various sites with the ceremonies in them, and edited to fit. Credits to the Warriors wikis out there.
