Part I: Universal Design for Learning

What is UDL?

  • UDL is an educational approach to teaching, learning, and assessment, drawing on new brain research and new media technologies (CAST, 2003)

  • Is a set of principles for curriculum development that gives all individuals equal opportunities to learn, to communicate what they know, and to engage in learning that interests them.

  • UDL is not a set method for instruction, but rather a framework for instructional design and delivery that is built on the principle that all students can learn; multiple means of content delivery and student assessment should be part of daily lessons and planning to enhance the learning process (Thoma, et.al., 2009).
