Structural Frame
The structural frame is a mental model which strives to view a situation as a product of the social arrangement of an organization. Variables within an organization such as its organizational structure play a role in how the organization makes decisions and interacts with its employees and external stakeholders. The structural frame does not seek to determine the single best method of structuring an organization, but how an organization’s circumstances influences its layout and how it divides and coordinates work amongst its employees (Bolman & Deal, 2021).
Reflection
Studying an organization through the structural frame helps us better understand many different aspects of the organization. This frame helps us understand why an organization is structurally formed the way it is, and when restructuring an organization might be warranted. It also helps us study and understand the dilemmas a company faces, how it coordinates through its employees, and tensions that might exist between the organization and its employees.
