WEHERUA
Welcome to my website WEHERUA and what this site can provide for you. The kaupapa Tupapakurau Rongā is now under WEHERUA and under the legal entity of Tuwhenuakura Trust.
Tupapakurau Rongā
We don't like to think about our loved ones about their ending of life and we go into denial of how we settle our loved ones, only through how Society has conditioned ourselves to think and process the normal practice of sending our loved ones to the Funeral Services and we seem to think 'What you don't see won't matter' and this has become a huge influence through advertisements, normal practice and supported by Society.
There is a The Gap that everyone doesn't seem to be told of your own rights to your loved ones, and, this discussion and information is in the Te Ao Weherua Day Workshop. You are unaware on how your loved one is processed and how the Funeral Services are obligated to perform from embalming to decoration (Legislation Act). Once you hand over your loved one to the Funeral Director you will have lost any rights to him/her and governed by the rules and law of the Funeral Services. Te Ao Weherua Day Workshop will show you how to know more about 'The Gap!' and also the harvesting of such resources. Not to mention the costs and debts given with a Loved One, even though you may have a Life Insurance but it's more than 'Pay & Go' practice, it's about your respect and assurance that he/she will 'REST IN PEACE' altogether physically. Te Po Weherua and Te Ao Weherua will ensure your knowledge is met when you wanna give back your chance of Love to your loved one/s.
Te Po Weherua Wananga is about sharing my tacit knowledge and the practices that I perform currently for the loved ones within Te Tairawhiti. Practice this field within my hapu and have come to realize that other hapu need this practice. There are two areas of Practice: Moana tikanga and Ngahere tikanga.
NOTE/WARNING TO ALL ATTENDEES
These wananga is not for you to take away to deliver in hauora settings or any other company that wants to create business or wananga without any acknowledgement of the knowledge given. This is for the whanau to do whanau internally and not a subject to steal the information to develop your own business venture or Hauora prospective. This is a legal document written and ownership stays with my hapu not to be used for self gain.
Te Ao Weherua is about the environmental preparations of harvest under Pūtaiao.
3 WAANANGA:

WANANGA TWO: TE AO WEHERUA. Paru Ora, Rongā Tai
WANANGA THREE: TE PO WEHERUA me ona tikanga. Taha Mauri Taha Wairua
Must complete in order to achieve the whole kaupapa of Tupapakurau Rongā Waananga.
Pūtaiao
Cremation and Embalming have effects on our Pūtaiao (Environmental), require energy, and emits carbon dioxide. Embalming fluids are carcinogenic and pollute waterways. Formaldehyde is used and has now been banned in the European Union. Currently, 90% of bodies in our country are embalmed.
I understanding the care and respect the Funeral Directors have, responsibility to every loved one that are under their care, but, it's the process I find unreal but it's real behind closed doors. Majority of the loved ones that were alive were very private people and to share them to strangers just bites into the tikanga kore practices and yet we continue to do this and we seem not to bother about it on our marae when we are practicing Tangihanga.
We learnt that we were never to leave the deceased left alone, this would become a 'Mana Takahi' or a 'Makutu' and yet in the few hours after death we have given our loved one to a professional decorator and butcher to process him/her. You maybe shocked to hear this but it is a true as having a baby.
As an alternative to embalming, we will provide whānau with Tupapakurau Rongā for this training to walk and teach these skills to help you take the leadership for your immediate family through the process of preserving their loved one, especially if the loved one is in your 'Bubble'. and it is through Te Po Weherua and Te Ao Weherua that will start your journey into learning, understanding and practicing with tools to take with you.
There's three important preparations or tikanga that I will teach... depends on your rohe one of these will be appropriate.
"Rongā Here! Rongā Wai! Rongā Tai!"
Additional option to help you connect with our networks to have your loved one placed in confined comfort of harakeke, self-made coffin or sheet with some adjustments to accomplish the tūpāpaku to lay instate. It is more appropriate if there is a extra member from your whanau who be able to attend with you.
Remember that the practice of Tupapakurau Rongā is not limited to the physical practice.
After completing Te Po & Te Ao there is a yearly membership fee that will inform you of other beautiful possible ways within Tupapakurau Rongā and for any guidance from the team of Tuwhenuakura Trust.
Te Po Weherua is two nights and Te Ao Weherua is only one day depends on over night tikanga! Combining both introduces Tupapakurau Rongā Wananga.
This taonga tuku iho is precious to give back to our loved ones in the most respected and honoured way to preserve naturally for burial.
This kaupapa is not limited to Maori but for all with a heart to 'Learn to listen, listen to learn!'
