Museum Prinsenhof Delft
In 1584, William I was assassinated in his residence in Delft, which was a monastery at the time (now known as Prinsenhof), by an assassin disguised as a French nobleman who had gained his trust. William I’s body was later interred in the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) in Delft, and since then, the Dutch royal family has been buried there. The monastery was converted into the Museum Prinsenhof Delft in 1911 to commemorate William I, who led the Dutch in resisting the Spanish invasion. The museum houses a large collection of paintings from the Dutch royal era as well as various historical materials related to the Dutch-Spanish wars.
