Simply put, the best place to buy any books online is NOT AMAZON.
Amazon.com has a death grip on the book industry, along with almost every other retail industry you can think of. The company exploits workers, destroys local economies, creates excessive packaging waste, takes in billions in taxpayer subsidies while paying $0 in taxes, and is responsible for a huge carbon footprint. It is imperative that we do whatever we can to not support a company like this.
I first self-published through Amazon because it was the cheapest, quickest, and easiest way to self-publish. My books are still on Amazon, but I highly recommend getting them elsewhere.
What I will recommend first and foremost is bookshop.org, “an online bookstore with a mission to financially support local, independent bookstores.” Take a look at their about page and notice how they are going about their mission. It is inspiring, and I hope they can continue fighting mega-corporations like Amazon.com for as long as possible. Currently, my books that are on Bookshop are: Turn Left to Nowhere, No Parents No Horses No Bedtime, and Lights Up.
I am also in the process of making my eBooks available through many platforms other than just Amazon’s Kindle. Check for my eBooks on Apple, Barnes & Noble, Scribd, Tolino, Vivlio, Kobo, Overdrive, Biblioteca, Baker & Taylor, and Hoopla. I’m not entirely sure what some of those are, but I believe some of my books should be there.
If you’d like me to send you a book directly, contact me and we can set something up. I’ll sign it for you or draw an ice cream cone on it or something, I don’t know. I usually have extra author copies laying around and my girlfriend wants me to get rid of them, so this option would be helpful for everyone involved.
Support local business, support your fellow humans, and support the Earth.
