(ABOVE, RED): When CO2 (carbon dioxide) increases, the equation shifts to the left to make more H+, leading to RESPIRATORY ACIDOSIS.
When HCO3- (bicarbonate) decreases, the equation also shifts to the left to increase H+, leading to METABOLIC ACIDOSIS.
(BELOW, BLUE): The opposite is true in low CO2, where the equation shifts to the right, removing H+ and leading to RESPIRATORY ALKALOSIS.
When HCO3- goes down, the equation also shifts to the right, leading to METABOLIC ALKALOSIS.
