Motivation

It is normal for Motivation to be higher and lower at different times in our lives.

During stressful circumstances this can add another layer of stress for students and teens.

Typically there are 2 types of Motivation:

Motivation due to interest and/or enjoyment in the task

  • enjoyment

  • purpose

  • curiosity

  • growth

  • passion

  • self-expression

  • fun

Motivation due to the outcome of that the action/task

  • money

  • rewards

  • recognition

  • prizes

  • competition and winning

  • benefits

When we are intrinsically motivated to do something, we are far more likely to successfully complete the task and feel a strong sense of accomplishment. The good news is, that if you seem to have lost some intrinsic motivation (or maybe you never had it) then you can create extrinsic motivation. Both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation can be cultivated.
