Summer Music Camp Scholarship
Criteria to Apply
1. Applicant must be studying with a teacher who is a member of Tri-City Chapter WSMTA.
2. Applicant must be entering grades eight to twelve the following fall.
3. Applicant must perform one memorized piece in the designated Student Recital. (March or April)
4. Students may only receive a music camp scholarship and attend music camp one year. They cannot apply for a second year.
5. Along with this application form a student needs to attach a short essay describing their musical background and goals.
The teacher of the student also needs to attach a brief paragraph about the student's abilities and can mention if there is financial need.
6. Teachers may only enter students on the instrument they teach; if students receive a scholarship, then the scholarship can only be used for the instrument played at the audition recital.
This scholarship will be used towards the cost of the camp. The scholarship's exact amount will be sent to the camp or reimbursed to parents of the child. Reimbursement requires a receipt of the camp paid invoice or copy of the check payment. Send to the Chapter Treasurer. Amount of the scholarship varies so check the Sounding Board and check with the Scholarship Chair.
Deadline: Applications are due by the Chapter Meeting date listed in the Calendar and are to be given to the Scholarship Chair.
Eleanor Haney Bessie Shepherd Scholarship for Seniors
The Eleanor Haney Bessie Shepherd Scholarship is for graduating seniors wishing to pursue a major or minor in music. The chapter will offer as many scholarships under this name each year as possible. Applications are due to the scholarship chair by the March chapter meeting date. Students must perform at the April chapter meeting. The number of senior scholarships available for a current year will be announced in January.
The applicant must be a proclaimed music major or minor. If no music majors apply, then music minors may apply. If there are no music majors or minors, the scholarship will be open to CBC students who study with a Tri-City Chapter teacher.
An essay will accompany the application.
Guidelines for Application for the Eleanor Haney-Bessie Shepherd Scholarship
1. The student must be studying with a teacher that is a member of the Tri-City Chapter.
2. The student must have studied with the teacher for at least 6 months prior to applying.
3. The musical accomplishments and contributions of the applicant to the community, as participation in choir, symphony, band, or accompanying within school or church, shall merit consdieration.
4. The performance should include the following:
Three Compositions from two different periods of music history and in contrasting styles.
a. Music selected should a composition of merit, no arrangements.
b. Length of playing time will be 15 - 20 minutes.
c. Judging will be on the basis of technique, interpretation, selection of music and memorization.
d. Exceptions to memorization would be traditional: brass and woodwind instrumentalists and non-keyboard sonatas.
d. Please bring your music for the judge.
5. Student cannot apply and receive two scholarships if excelling in two instruments.
6. The scholarships may not be split.

Ebony and Ivory Piano Student Grant
PURPOSE: to provide financial assistance for continued private study to committed piano students
who demonstrate financial need.
GUIDELINES
1. The grant is open to piano students who have studied a minimum of 1 year and whose
teachers are members (of at least 12 months standing) of the Tri-City Chapter of WSMTA.
2. The applicant will be considered on a basis of financial need and musical commitment.
3. Grant funds needed to subsidize lesson costs will be awarded. The grant will be for a period
of not more than one year and may be approved for additional years at the discretion of the
Student Grant Committee. Students seeking grant renewal must submit another application
to the committee for consideration.
4. The grant may only be used to offset the cost of piano lessons.
5. The grant will be sent directly to the applicant’s teacher. Any funds not used shall be
returned by the teacher to this Grant fund.
6. The number of grants awarded in any year will be determined by the number of qualified
applicants and the available funds. All decisions of the Student Grant Committee are final.
7. The Music Teacher will coordinate the completion of both forms listed below, and submit to
the Chapter Scholarship/Grant Chair for review and approval by the Grant Committee.
