MusicFest: Sonatina/Bach Festival

A Tri-City Chapter program, the Sonatina/Bach Festival is an adjudicated event for the advancing student. Each student will memorize and play a sonatina, sonata or Bach piece for an adjudicator and also play technique for a teacher.  The judging is scored according to a standard and is non-competitive.

Registration deadline is October 13

Sonatina/Bach Festival 2023

This year’s Sonatina/Bach Festival will be a two day event: Friday, October 27 from 3-5 p.m. at Dickerson’s Tri-City Piano at 1330 Jadwin Avenue in Richland, and Saturday, October 28 from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. at Central United Protestant Church in Richland. Our adjudicator will be Renato Fabbro, whose students have won numerous competitions throughout the Northwest.

As much as possible, students will be grouped by the level of piece they are playing. Each participating student performs one movement of a sonata, sonatina or Bach piece. Maximum allowed time is 7 minutes. An additional time slot may be purchased at $2 per minute if needed. At the end of each session, the adjudicator will give oral comments to the entire group, as well as providing written comments for each performer. Students performing in both the Sonatina and Bach categories will receive a special commendation.

The entry fee is $20 per student for member teachers, $40 per student for non-member teachers. All checks should be made out to the students’ teachers. The teachers will write one collective check to WSMTA Tri-City Chapter.

Feel free to email us any time with questions, concerns, or clarification.

Sincerely,

Sheila Gephart Ben Walley
