Day 5 – The Last Day
This morning, we all really missed Br. Roman, but we knew we had to finish strong for him. We got off to a great start because we wanted to reach our final destination quickly to see the surprise waiting for us. It was a bit rainy, but we joked that it was probably Dr. Krom’s tears because we were almost out of beef jerky.
About two miles from our final destination, we reached a beautiful overlook that took our breath away. This is where we chose to do morning prayer. Praying to God in nature is one of the most amazing experiences anyone can have. At the overlook, we all ate the last of our beef jerky. Once it was gone, we kept moving toward our final destination.
When we finally arrived, we got our surprise: a non-rehydrated meal from a restaurant. We all secretly wished it had been more beef jerky, but we still had a blast relaxing, talking, and enjoying a warm meal on a cold day. Then, out of nowhere, Br. Roman appeared to surprise us and welcome us back into civilization. We were all really happy to reunite with him.
That’s what happens on the trail, you become family.
