"You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to."
The Route
A 70-mile hiking trail that stretches along Laurel Mountain from the Youghiogheny River at Ohiopyle State Park to the Conemaugh Gorge near Johnstown.
Where seasoned backpackers and casual hikers enjoy themselves on steep, rugged areas of the trails and views from above valleys to the heart of the forests.
The trail is the main feature of Laurel Ridge State Park. It traverses state parks, state forests, state game lands, other public lands, and private lands.
The Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail is a major segment of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail, a network of trails between the mouth of the Potomac River and the Allegheny Highlands.
The Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail is open year-round and is blazed approximately every 100 feet with 2-inch and 5-inch yellow blazes.
Connector trails lead to and from trailheads and shelter areas and are marked with blue blazes. Mileage monuments are every mile. At camp sites, firewood, shelters, restrooms, and potable water is avaliable.
