Hampi is a town in the Vijayanagara district in the Indian state of Karnataka ... It is famous for hosting the Hampi Group of Monuments - a UNESCO World Heritage Site ... Hampi’s spectacular setting is dominated by river Tungabhadra, craggy hill ranges and open plains, with widespread physical remains. The sophistication of the varied urban, royal and sacred systems is evident from the more than 1600 surviving remains that include forts, riverside features, royal and sacred complexes, temples, shrines, pillared halls, Mandapas, memorial structures, gateways, defence check posts, stables, water structures, etc.

This is not really a travel guide - this is a list of the monuments (with their location) in Hampi. Since there's plenty of information online about Hampi and its monuments, it won’t be repeated here. Had a site like this been available before my visit to Hampi, it would have saved me a lot of time and effort. I struggled to find a comprehensive list of monuments in Hampi. I hope this site proves helpful to you in that regard.
The Virupaksha Temple, located on the banks of the Tungabhadra river, is the heartbeat of Hampi.
There are more than 100 monuments in Hampi - to help visitors navigate this vast site, the monuments have been divided into five distinct regions or clusters :
The "Sacred Center" cluster with Virupaksha Temple.
The "Royal Center" cluster about 3 Km south-east of the Sacred Center.
The "Riverside" cluster about 2 Km north-east of the Sacred Center.
The "Anegundi" cluster about 4 Km north-east (and north) of the Sacred Center.
The "Kamalapura" cluster about 5 Km south-east (and east) of the Sacred Center.
Refer to the map below for the location of these clusters.
For a one day visit refer to "Must See Monuments" and "Notable Monuments" (below).

Hampi is a small village, there's not much available in Hampi itself - few shops, no restaurants, no chemists, no hotels. Kamalapura (5 Km away) and New Hampi/Kadirampura (4 Km away) have a few shops, restaurants, hotels and homestays. The nearest town is Hospete (14 Km away).
Being a temple town non-vegetarian food and alcohol are prohibited in Hampi. No clubs, night life or fine dining ;-)
State transport buses run between Hampi Bus Stand and Hospete Bus Stand. Frequency is quite good (every 20 minutes approx) and the charge is Rs 20 (in 2024). Can get crowded. There are two bus routes to Hampi - the Kamalapura route and the New Hampi/Kadirampura route. Autos charge approx Rs 250 for the same.
Always carry water - it can get pretty hot. Wear sneakers/trekking shoes - you'll need to walk a bit. Wear a hat in the afternoon. Keep a flashlight handy, there are occasional power cuts. Monkeys tend to grab food/snacks, so be careful. Hampi is safe and the people are very helpful. Cycles are available (Rs 200 per day, try VIOK : here and here) - cycling is the best way to see Hampi IMO. Scooters and motor-cycles can be rented too. Snacks are available near the bus stand and Old Hampi (next to Virupaksha Temple, try Sagar for breakfast). Try Mango Tree Restaurant for lunch & dinner, vegetarian; they also have a non-veg restaurant nearby. Hampi bananas are tasty and quite cheap, available at road side stalls.
Entry to the active temples in Hampi is prohibited if visitors are not dressed appropriately - shorts, sleeveless tops, and revealing outfits are not permitted.
For the budget traveller homestays are a good option. Plenty in New Hampi, charges are Rs 800 upwards. Most homestays can arrange for food, guides and auto services.
