Travel Guide Orchha
Orchha is a small town in the north of Madhya Pradesh state, India. Orchha was founded in the 16th century by the Bundela Rajput chief Rudra Pratap Singh. There are several historical places to visit in Orchha which has maintained the culture and legends of the rulers of the Bundela dynasty.
90+ sites. The stars indicate my rating of a site (***** = really worth visiting).
When I decided to visit Orchha I kept finding names/references to the many sites in Orchha.
However, there was no single source that listed all the sites. Hope this guide helps others in that regard.
The top attractions
Ram Raja Mandir, the heartbeat of Orchha, is located right in the center of the town. To visit these sites you need a Orchha Pass (see below).
Chaturbhuj Mandir (Location, next to Ram Raja Mandir)
Raj Mahal (Location, 200 mt to the east of Ram Raja Mandir in Orchha Fort)
Jahangir Mahal (Location, next to Raj Mahal)
Laxminarayan Mandir (Location, 1 km to the west of Ram Raja Mandir)
Royal Chhatris (Location, 1 km to the south of Ram Raja Mandir)
My favorite places in Orchha
Apart from the 'top attractions' these are the places I really liked :
Pavilion With Painting : small, beautiful chhatri located between the road going to Rai Parveen Mahal and Raj Mahal. Apart from looking good the chhatri and the paintings within are original (not 'restored').
Bastion with well : unique fort bastion that has a stepwell within. Also has rooms below along the circumference of the well. When I was there it was being 'restored', meaning it will now look fakey ;-)
Shiva Mandir : small ancient temple. looks good and has a nice vibe, for me at least. Original AFAIK. Located north of Raj Mahal.

The Orchha Pass
To visit the top attractions in Orchha (except the Ram Raja Mandir) you will need to buy a Orchha Pass. This is available near the entrance to the fort. In late 2022 it was Rs 50 for Indian nationals. Preserve the pass since it is required to visit the best places in Orchha.
Similarly a Parking Ticket/Pass is available. Valid at all parking zones in Orchha. Rs 30 I think.
