Inverted shadow at Vidyarenya Matta
The inverted shadow of the gopura of the Virupaksha Mandir is amazing, yes. But on my second visit I was there in the evening and the inverted shadow was actually golden ! Faint to the eye but cameras capture it well. Pic below.
The inverted shadow, morning (left) & evening (right).
Inverted shadow 1 (location : rear entrance of the temple complex)
The shadow of the Raj Gopuram or the main tower of the Virupaksha temple on a wall in the Saalu Mandapa. This is to the right of the rear entrance of the temple complex. This is the one most visitors see. The shadow is dark in the morning and golden in the evening. See pic. Info
Inverted shadow 2 (location : rear entrance of the temple complex)
The shadow of the gopuram of the garbhagriha (which is much smaller than the gopuram at the main entrance) on a wall in the Saalu Mandapa. This is to the left of the rear entrance of the temple complex. Very few visitors are aware of it. The shadow is much larger than the shadow 1 since the gopuram is closer to the opening (the pin hole). See pic with a pic-in-pic to hilite the shadow). Info
Inverted shadow 3 (location)
The shadow of the Raj Gopuram or the main tower of the Virupaksha temple on a wall in Vidyaranya Matta located about 50 meters from the rear entrance of the temple complex. Best viewed at noon. The inverted shadow is very sharp. A small opening has been cut into a wooden sheet to create the shadow. The shadow is in the small room at the entrance to this matta. See pic.
