Visual Art in the Foundation year is about exploring and exposure to as many mediums as possible. Throughout the year we cover The Elements of Art, Drawing, Collage, Painting, Modelling, Construction, Printmaking and Textiles. We aim to allow the students to utilise many different utensils in order to enjoy a variety of art. Sometimes we cover the mediums by looking at well known painters, both Australian and international, from the past and present.
If Covid normal allows, we welcome parents to occasionally assist in the classroom, especially when there are tricky skills to learn like stitching. At the beginning of the year all students will receive a Visual Art diary. This diary is stored in the art room and used until the end of Year 6. This is where we plan, design, reflect and explore.
You will need to provide a smock at the beginning of the year. This is to be given to the classroom teacher who will store it in a basket. These are returned at the end of the year for washing and checking to see they still fit! They are available for purchase from PSW, Kmart, Target, Big W etc. Alternatively, you can use an old shirt, as long as it has long sleeves. Please ensure these are named.
The 2021 Visual Arts teacher is Nadine King. Nadine has taught at Eastwood for 14 years and her daughters also attended EPS when they were younger.

Please note: It is recommended that students commencing Foundation wait until at least Term 2, or longer to settle into routines before committing to learning an instrument.
