About Us

A brief history

Starting in May 2023 with just the founder, Nghia Luu, and a small idea, the ZeroWaste Project began as a simple effort to reduce food waste at TNIS. What started as a one-person initiative quickly grew as more volunteers joined, bringing new energy and ideas. Together, we launched programs that encourage students to build the habit of “zero food waste” meals, transforming a personal concern into a school-wide movement for sustainability.

Mission

To reduce food waste and combat food insecurity by promoting sustainable, zero-waste meals and fostering community engagement through food drives, auditing programs, and community gardens.

Our Partners

Rikolto Vietnam

An international organization promoting sustainable agriculture and nutrition programs. Rikolto supports our gardening and nutrition initiatives, helping educate communities about sustainable food practices.

K-12 Food Rescue

An organization that recovers surplus meals from schools and redistributes them to students and families in need, reducing food waste and supporting food secuity. ZeroWaste Project is proud to be recognized as a representative from Vietnam, with Nghia Luu serving as the K-12 Food Waste Student Leader.

VietHarvest

Founded in 2020, VietHarvest is a social enterprise committed to reducing food waste and alleviating hunger in Vietnam. VietHarvest supports ZeroWaste to organize food drives, helping redistribute surplus food to communities in need.

Food Rescue US

A nonprofit from the US that helps reduce food waste and improve food security through innovative programs and guidance. They provide advice on our food waste auditing program to enhance efficiency and impact.

True North International School

Serves as the main chapter of ZeroWaste Project, with the majority of activities and programs taking place on their campus, fostering engagement and leadership in sustainability initiatives.

The Olympia School

Hosted a ZeroWaste chapter, supporting student-led initiatives to reduce food waste and promote sustainability in the school community. ZeroWaste also had an opportunity to organize an auditing program through their summer camps

Point Avenue

An organization that provides guidance, locations, and resources to help communities launch food waste initiatives through their leadership summer and winter programs. They partner with us to support our summer camp programs, enabling students to learn and implement sustainable practices.
