This section highlights ZeroWaste Project’s activities and accomplishments beyond school campuses, showcasing our engagement with the broader community, partnerships, and initiatives that promote sustainability and reduce food waste.
After an exciting three weeks of our food drive, the ZeroWaste Project has successfully partnered with VietHarvest to deliver all the generous donations from students, parents, and staff.
These donations have reached various locations supporting disabled individuals, homeless children, and other vulnerable communities, many of whom ZeroWaste members had the privilege to meet in person.
Together, ZeroWaste Project and VietHarvest were able to feed over 150 people from the following organizations:
Dialysis Village
A total of 814 food items weighing 165 kg were collected:
🥛 Dairy Products: 284 items (70 kg)
🍘 Desserts/Snacks: 210 items (40 kg)
🌾 Grain Products: 241 items (30 kg)
🧂 Cooking Additives: 38 items (5 kg)
🥫 Canned Meat/Tuna: 43 items (20 kg)
The event has successfully reminded everyone of our privilege and the hope that we will continue to show gratitude for what we have, especially when others have less.
In mid-June, Nghia Luu served as a guest speaker at Nam Trung Yen Middle School in collaboration with Rikolto Vietnam to deliver an educational presentation on sustainable gardening and reducing food waste. The session introduced students to practical gardening methods such as composting, soil maintenance, and home vegetable cultivation, while also raising awareness about the environmental consequences of food waste and unsustainable consumption. Through interactive discussions and practical examples, the presentation encouraged students to develop environmentally responsible habits and demonstrated how small community-driven actions can contribute to long-term sustainability.
After a successful donation in AY 2024–2025, we continued this initiative by organizing another food drive in March 2026 in partnership with VietHarvest.
This was not simply a collection effort. It became a space for TNIS students to engage directly with the community, exchanging perspectives and gaining exposure to sign language, cultural diversity, and individuals from varied backgrounds.
Overall, the ZeroWaste Project and VietHarvest supported over 270 individuals across six locations (KymViet, Thuong Thuong, Nghi Luc Song, Coup de Pouce, CDVX, Dialysis Village).
In total, 621 food items weighing 191 kg were collected:
🍜 Noodles: 303 items
🍪 Sweet and snacks: 163 items
🥛 Milk: 53 items
🌿 Seaweed: 39 items
🥫 Canned products: 34 items
☕ Tea and coffee: 13 items
📦 Other: 16 items
Beyond the numbers, the event reinforced an awareness of privilege and the responsibility to act on it, encouraging continued gratitude and sustained engagement with communities facing greater need.
