This section highlights ZeroWaste Project’s activities and accomplishments beyond school campuses, showcasing our engagement with the broader community, partnerships, and initiatives that promote sustainability and reduce food waste.
ZeroWaste Project has officially launched at The Olympia Schools. Our first mission is to track food waste at the school's summer camp. With an average of 1000+ meals per day, the campaign saw a decrease in the average weight per meal served (around 40%). The total food waste of 484 kg and 80.7 kg/day.
Besides Olympia's Summer Camp, the ZeroWaste Project has hosted a food waste management program at Point Avenue Leadership Camp for all of three sessions. Food waste is tracked daily and updated for students. Moreover, food waste is divided into categories: liquid and solid food waste. A unique activity of the camp is mindful eating which is hosted by ZeroWaste members. The results were significant in terms of daily food waste throughout the three sessions, with the appearance of a food waste police station in the last two sessions. In session 1, there was a 60% reduction in daily food waste for 60 people, which led to 1.85 kg/person with a total of 111.4 kg of food waste total. In session 2, the result was more significant with an 83% reduction with an average of 0.85 kg/person, while the total food waste was only 68.5 kg for 80 people. In the third session, the improvement was even more significant with an 86% reduction while there were only 10.8 kg of food waste. The food waste per day was only 0.9 kg/day and the food waste for each person was 0.36 kg/person, the lowest out of three sessions.
After a wonderful two weeks at Point Avenue Winter Leader’s Camp 2024. ZeroWaste Project is proud to continue contribute to the tradition of No Food Waste at the camp followed by a successful management project in Point Avenue SLC 24. As a result, the camp shows an improvement in food waste by 50%. The total food waste was 23kg, 1.43 kg per person on average. In addition, we were able to have the Squad Leader and Cadets participated in the movement as the volunteer, who helped to weigh the daily food waste and put the number into graphs
