With the use of technology, reading literary texts is one strategy that tries to assist students in developing both their language skills and their cultural knowledge. Literary texts provide several benefits, including being authentic resources, inspiring, entertaining, and fun activity, as well as including feelings and emotions, fostering self-knowledge and self-evaluation, and assisting with language learning. Along with studying about the culture, students also study the past, the present, and habits and traditions of various groups of people (Erkaya, 2005). Literature increases students' imagination (Brumfit & Carter, 2000, p.193). It can enhance students' emotional awareness, sharpen their critical thinking skills, and inspire their imagination (Lazar, 1993, p.19). The promotion of reading and experiencing literature for personal enrichment is another goal of employing literature in language instruction (Pieper, 2006, p.5). The students will read actual texts and gain the benefits of literature to broaden their cultural or linguistic understanding rather than the dry sections from their course books if literary works are included in the instructional materials (Sentürk, S., & Kahraman, 2020).
Students are more motivated and eager to study when literary works are included in the classroom (CAN, I. N, 2014). Literature in any language serves as a reflection of the values of the society at the time it was created since language reflects the customs, traditions, and beliefs of a society (Permawardhena, 2005, p. 94). Permawardhena (2005) lists the many advantages of using literature in EFL classrooms and claims that doing so improves the students' abilities in a variety of areas. The incorporation of literature enables students to improve their analytical and critical thinking abilities while also exposing them to various cultures and the language used in various communities depending on the time period the work was set in (p. 96). In relation to these comments and opinions, using literature can be seen as an effective approach to use in language classrooms.
