The competent teacher has foundational knowledge of reading, writing, and oral communication within the content area and recognizes and addresses student reading, writing, and oral communication needs to facilitate the acquisition of content knowledge.

Here are assignments that was given out to students which helped allowed them to apply reading and writing and oral communication. In order complete this assignment, the kids have to apply reading the sheet, then applying their knowledge into their performances, then writing down their results and answers down on the sheet.

For these assignments, I assigned assignments for my students so they could practice the knowledge of reading, have practice reading and writing in my PE class and have oral communication with others about the content being given. It is very important to apply and provide literacy in every subject especially in PE. 

The first assignment is a  "Get to know my Friends" activity. I gave this out in the beginning of the school year to have my students get to know each other and learn fro each other. It was a way to incorporate PE, with literacy and the kids had to learn to apply reading and writing in the activity being given. it was PE based information and questions, but yet apply oral communication, and reading and writing about the content. The kids loved walking around with one another and have a social interaction with another. They enjoyed the class activity and was very beneficial for them to apply different actions. Students were really engaged in the reading and writing activity because they were able to communicate with each other. The only way they could receive answers and information is by oral communication and reading. I think reading and writing is a great way to teach something but also make it fun. I found fun activities that went along with our PE curriculum and students seemed to really enjoy performing the activity. The worksheet information is about PE and things they need to learn, already learned or already know. 

The other assignment is our "Fitness Test," which I gave to my students so that they were able read the assigned sheet and then apply their knowledge in their performance and then write down the results. It was a way to incorporate PE, with literacy and the kids had to learn to apply reading and writing in the activity being given. It was PE based information on the testing sheet, but yet apply oral communication, and reading and writing about the content. The kids loved being apart of groups and working together to get their fitness test completed.

These assignments connects well with standard 6J which states, "the competent teacher selects, modifies, and uses a wide range of printed, visual, and auditory materials, and online resources appropriate to the content areas and the reading needs and levels of each student". These assignments connects well with the standard because I am using materials from online as well as pictures to help my students gain a better understanding of our reading and writing activity. When you have an activity to do while you read, or even after you are finished reading a section, it will help students remember more of the information they are retaining. 

One thing that I have learned from this activity is that reading and writing activities as a whole class is a great way to interact with your students. It gives you time to work with one another and that everyone is eager to learn more about. It builds that bond between you and your students, which is very important.
