The competent teacher has in-depth understanding of content area knowledge that includes central concepts, methods of inquiry, structures of the disciplines, and content area literacy. The teacher creates meaningful learning experiences for each student based upon interactions among content area and pedagogical knowledge, and evidence-based practice.
Here is a Powerpoint on the 5 components of fitness that I taught to my classes so that they understood the importance of Physical Education and how we benefit from it. This powerpoint shows the 5 main focuses on what we gain from PE class and our goals to try to achieve in class through the lesson and activities we perform in class.
This is an important technology tool that would be beneficial for both a teacher and student. I decided to create a powerpoint because it is a great way to teach a lessons and important topic focuses we do in PE by using a screen. The 5 components of fitness presentation tool that us used to engage students in individual and social learning. This tool is great for in-class lessons as well as distant learning. This presentation goes in depth explaining the 5 main focuses on fitness and what your body benefits from physical fitness and exercise and how easy it is to learn. I also gave a few examples showing how this tool can be used for different types of lessons. Overall, it is a fun and effective tech tool that could be very helpful for teachers.
This technology tool connects well with standard 2G which states, "the competent teacher understands the theory behind the process for providing support to promote learning when concepts and skills are first being introduced". I believe this standard connects well with the technology tool because it is a great way to promote learning when students are learning new ideas as well as reviewing old ones. This tool allows students to see exactly what is on the teachers screen and follow along as he/she goes from one slide to the other. This tool is great for teaching new lessons, reviewing previous lessons, and even quizzing your students on what you're teaching them.
I found this tool to be very helpful within my time as a student teacher. It is a great and easy source for teachers that need an effective way of teaching a lesson using technology. Providing power points has become a great tool that has been used often in my classroom.
This lesson was a fun activity that was my students were introduced the volleyball unit. The kids were learning to hit a volleyball, but before using a real volleyball, the students were given a big blown up beach ball to make it easier to hit the ball and to focus on the fundamentals of hitting a volleyball. As a class, we learned how to hit the volleyball in three different ways and forms. Some students have heard of these types of passes before, but weren't completely sure how to set up and hit the ball. To start the lesson, I asked the class if anyone has heard of the of the three types of hits in volleyball. For those students who had their hands raised, I then asked a follow up question, "if you have heard these passes before, what do you think it will look like when hitting each pass with the volleyball? I started to get many answers that related very well with how we determine what the hits were and looked like. As the teacher, this made me feel really good about the lesson because students were already very engaged in the lesson and those who didn't quite understand what the passes were an now have an idea as we dive into the lesson. Then, as a class we worked on a hitting combination together in the gym during class.
This lesson related very well with standard 3P which states "the competent teacher works others to adapt and modify instruction to meet individual student needs". As we worked through the lesson, I walked around observing to make sure the students had the correct form. I tired to guide specific students that oftentimes need a little more support and instruction on their form. I then showed the kids a modified instruction so that students were able to better understand and perform the lesson. I showed the kids the big beach balls so that they were able to apply their form they were just taught and to apply it by using the big beach balls with their partners. Using the big beach ball helped the kids practice their form by using a bigger target to hit which made it easier for the kids to hit the ball appropriately and with correct form and knowledge. This seemed to really help the students and gave them more confidence in their own individual knowledge.
One thing that I learned from this lesson is that support can come in many different forms. All students need support, but it may look different for all students. For example, some students need more practice and specific equipment to help them learn. Some kids need the undivided attention while others need a pat on the back or a nice compliment. That is one thing I love about students because they are unique and special in their own way, and that they all need different forms of help to allow the to achieve and successfully learn with different things provided for them. Some modification is the best way to learn because it allows them to learn slowly and to help them achieve in baby steps.
