Brief History
The Tiwi Community College (TCC), a higher education institution, was established on September 17, 1994 by virtue of Municipal Resolution 24-94 backed up by Municipal Ordinance No. 7-94. After a series of consultation of late Mayor Naomi C. Corral being the Chairman of the Board of Organizers and upon the recommendations of the board to the Sanggunian Bayan of Tiwi, they convened for the approval of the said statutory law as presided by the late Sanggunian Bayan Member Nelson Villanueva and on motion of Sangunian Bayan Member Francisco Alarte and duly seconded by Kagawad Raul Corral and Kagawad David Beato, the ordinance was promulgated and executed. TCC started its modest educational operation during the academic year 1994-1995 with three courses as stipulated in the Municipal Ordinance such as:
Bachelor of Secondary Education and Bachelor of Elementary Education
Bachelor of Science in Office Administration Major in Computer Science
Liberal Arts Major in Political Science
However, the school may offer additional courses as the need arises. The first enrollees were housed at Tiwi Agro-Industrial School (TAIS) sitio Comun, Bagumbayan, Tiwi, Albay and administered by Mr. Cresenciano Templado. Classes were held after 5:00 o'clock in the afternoon because TAIS building was used by the high school students during daytime. After several months TCC, was transferred to Municipal Building because of the distance problem to TAIS. On the second year of operation, TCC occupied the Tiwi Gymnasium from academic year 1996 to 2003 while the enrollees keep on increasing. In the year 2000, First District Representative Krisel Lagman Luistro appropriated an amount for the construction of new buIlding located at the Geraldine Subdivision, Libtong, Tiwi, Albay wherein the lot was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Armando T. Chiong which comprised of 5,228 square meters land. In 2003, it was completed and after the inauguration the new building was occupied while the enrollment reaching to 1,000 students.
TCC accommodated students from neighboring municipalities such as Camarines Sur, Malinao and Tabaco City, thereby continuously increasing the number of enrollees. In 2007, TCC acquired another parcel of land with an area of 4,000 sq. meters for the construction of new buildings.
At present, TCC has classes from 7:00 in the morning to 7:00 in the evening with appropriate facilities and considered self-liquidating higher institution in the first district of Albay.
