My professional development involved many people who became my mentors. These people helped me in balancing my personal and professional responsibilities throughout different phases of my life. They have guided me in times of uncertainty; nurtured me through my mistakes; and praised me at each milestone. Now, I strive to be one of the many people my mentees will turn to find guidance, nurturing, and support in their journey.
As your mentor, I will, to the best of my ability:
Be present and available to you
Help you find solutions to issues and problems without attempting to solve them for you
Collaborate with you to outline both short- and long-term goals, along with the necessary steps to achieve them
Be encouraging and provide you with positive motivation for your aspirations
Praise you for your achievements
As the mentee, I expect that you be committed to:
Listening actively and being open to constructive feedback
Being respectful of the time invested in your success
Providing, in a timely manner, open communication on meeting deadlines or keeping appointments.
Over the years, I have participated in mentoring programs and seminars to learn how to communicate effectively, set expectations, and create a safe learning environment to help nurture my mentees. Just as I bring my own diverse background as a mentee to my mentors, I know that each mentee brings with them their unique background and perspective to our mentor-mentee relationship. I have learned and will continue to learn how to embrace all aspects of your uniqueness to allow us to be successful together.
