This course is the first of three courses in the Calculus series offered at XULA. Students take this course to meet the "Quantitative Reasoning" requirement within the core curriculum, and it is a required course for both the Mathematics major and minor. All students must have passed MATH 1030 or its equivalent with a "C" or better grade or be placed in to 1070 by the Dean of Admissions according to their ACT/SAT scores. Students will learn different methods of reflecting critically on mathematical problems. The purpose of this course is to provide a clear understanding of the ideas of calculus as a solid foundation for subsequent courses in mathematics and other discipline. Topics covered in this course are: computing limits, derivatives and integrals with their principal interpretations and interrelationships; simple techniques of differentiation and integration; and applications of differentiation. This course is offered every semester.
Below is a PDF of the Calculus I Handbook that was created to supplement MATH 1070 at XULA.
This handbook was first created by Dr. Vlajko Kocic who passed away at the end of February 2024. The PDF below is the 2nd edition dedicated to Dr. Kocic.
