Ardenwood Historic Farms in Fremont is a nice getaway from stresses of every day life. Weekends and vacations can get crowded, but the location is so big that you can constantly discover a secluded picnic table or location away from the crowds. I'm a little bit of a history enthusiast, so the concept that this location was once an independently owned farm developed in the mid 1850's contributes to the character of the location. Ardenwood Historic Farms is excellent for famlies with or without kids, photographers, or just routine individuals who wish to find a nice location to walk around and see with a bit of history and nice scenery .
For a moment in time, you are far from the pressure of life and all, set to be swept away to another time period.
The Patterson House is immaculate on the within and out. The afternoon weekday park entryway was $3 and your house tour was another $3. So much regional history in this gem. My tourist guide Kim was accurate and amusing. The home is a museum so you can't touch anything.
The Patterson family came here during the gold rush and Mr. Patterson saved to buy the land by working for farmers. His land grew and grew. Seems like each generation more spaces were added to the house. Customized made stained glass and flooring, live in the guest parlor. There are also numerous others rooms consisting of family room with a old phonograph, dining room, cooking area, kitchen, bedrooms, play room that was initially the front patio, nursery, washrooms (including later with pipes), library, sewing space, a smoking space, and another family room with another piano. I think there were at least 3 pianos here. About 80% of the items in your house came from the Pattersons. I found out about life in the late 1800s. I saw a bed warmer, bed pan, and sponge bath bowl. I found out about hair art and other cultural things.
Orginal photos decorate the walls. It was lovely to see during the Christmas holidays since the house is decorated inside and out. Most of the rooms are upstairs and need a tourist guide.
