American High School

American High School is an outstanding school with excellent scholastic performance along with a variety of sports and arts programs. They were awarded as one of the California Distinguished Schools in 2019.

They are know for closing the gap in between different student groups... they must be doing something right.

The school opened in 1972 as an open campus with 9th, 10th and 11th graders under Principal Joseph Tranchina. The Class of 1974 was the school's first finishing class, and the Class of 1976 was the very first four-year class.

American High School was separated into 3 main wings under its initial design. When opened in 1972, the 300 and 500 wings were open locations, with specific classrooms being separated by portable dividers. By the time of the thirtieth anniversary, those wings had been renovated to a conventional long-term wall plan.

The 400 wing is a series of 2 computer system labs in between the 300 and 500 wings. In between the 500 wing and the 700 wing is 600 wing, which is a series of 3 classrooms, among which is now a kitchen for the cooking ROP classes. The classrooms of the 600 wing open to the previous lunchroom, now an open location. A new cafeteria-multipurpose structure was built next to the health club in 2010. The 900 wing is a fenced complex of four classrooms simply beyond the 700 wing. During the 2017-18 academic year, the school opened 2 new double-storied structures which include 8 class and 10 science labs.

There are 2 theaters. Theater 50 resembles a college lecture hall, while Theater 70 functions as the theater for the fall play and spring musical. When developed, there were 2 extra theaters, Theater 30 and 31, which through using a retractable wall, might be converted into one bigger theater. These theaters were later on remodeled into classrooms.
