The need for advertising in the slate industry was vital to its long term success. While much could be said about the pros and cons of the advertising used by the slate industry, the images speak for themselves.
The game of quoits is not unique to the slate trade. That being said though, the slate industry was able to take advantage of another idea by making quoit boards from slate. Originally made by the Structural Slate Company in Pen Argyl, a company called the Quoit Factory in Nazareth still manufactures this unique version of the game using slate for the board.
The Structural Slate company was large and diverse making everything from slate staircases, like those shown in this advertisement, to quoit games like those shown to the right. Advertising was a significant part of the company's success.
