Social Narratives

Social narratives are a social learning tool to communicate expectations clearly. They describe a particular situation, activity, or event, using visuals and simple, literal language. They describe what a child can expect, and what is expected of them, in a situation and why.

Social stories are a great way to communicate changes in routines or preparing a child for transitions, teaching skills, or dealing with challenging behaviors.

Social stories can be valuable tools in supporting the development of social and emotional skills in children. They are brief stories that describe social situations or interactions, breaking down complex scenarios into simple and clear steps that children can understand.  This story can help your class understand why some students need to use sensory or regulation tools and others may not.

Try this social story to support children who have difficulty when others break the rules or don't follow expectations at school or home.
