Guess what my favorite planet is
A planet of eternal sandstorms, famous for its toxicity and secrecy. Most civilization exists underground and relies on bioluminescent plants for survival needs. Cities are centered around naturally occurring caverns and tunnels within the darkness, and precautions are taken to minimize the toxicity of the environment.
Dakna possesses an incredibly advanced level of technology that is not known by most of the universe due to the secrecy of the people of Dakna. Very few leave the planet, and even fewer visit and return.
Dakna is a planet on the outskirts of the Facci star system
Capital of Dakna and one of the most heavily populated cities on the planet. Like many other cities, Nikan is centered about several large caverns supported by an elevator to the surface. Much illumination comes from the light layer above, as well as smaller bioluminescent plants.
A popular tourist location of Dakna, known for its breathtaking rock formations. Its buildings are carved into/around tree-like rock formations
Covered in thick clouds, the surface is too dark for human eyes. Dakna's distance from its star makes it so that its only heat source is from underground magma, making the outer temperatures freezing 24/7. The entire planet is covered in jagged rocks and sand.
rocks appear to be brittle and layered
mainly low rock formations, occasional cliffs and valleys with caves that lead to the underground chambers
rock formations seem to resemble plant life in some locations
Some buildings stick out onto the surface, triangular shapes blended into the rocks to avoid the wind
Everything on this planet is toxic lmao
The toxic gasses on the surface has contaminated most of the water supply on Dakna, making it mildly toxic. To resist this, the Nann are generally have a higher tolerance to poisons/toxic substances. But while the Nann are able to consume water and plants local to Dakna without any side effects, visitors tend to have an... interesting time upon first contact with Dakna's cave-water.
A diamond shaped building on the surface that leads to an elevator to the underground caves. Ships from spaceports enter directly into the structure to avoid as much toxic air as possible. Inside, visitors are greeted with a small food court and mall. There is also a final security check on the lowest floor.
Dakna has an intricate network of caves running underground which connect everything together. Larger caves connect large cities and are well maintained. Some have rails for bullet-train like transportation vehicles. Most caves have jagged rock formations that resemble limestone caves. Some of the less used caves have twisting rock patterns, making travel difficult. All caves have several security cameras and sensors installed to keep track of accidents and cave-ins.
In more dangerous or less used locations, walls are ranforced with spines/plant roots/nets.
Note: some caves and passageways are purposely not carved/paved to discourage visitors.
General
Dakna's underground tunnels are mainly covered in bioluminescent or transparent plants, usually resembling the moss or succulents on Earth. There are extensive networks of caves full of plants and rivers, and civilization usually exist underneath the roots.
Fairy's Footsteps
The Fairy's Footsteps is a clover-like plant that grows on moist surfaces, and glows a pale white color. It spreads through spores that are stuck onto the feet of people and animals, making the foot-shaped patches seem as if they emerged out of thin air. The plant grows relatively quickly, about 5 minutes after the spores have been placed on to the ground.
Takan
A bamboo like root that can be split apart into fine threads. It is often used to weave clothing and is known to be strong and durable. Fabric woven from this material is a dull beige color, which is then bleached or dyed a darker shade of grey. Colors don't really matter and the Nann are colorblind anyway.
Kana
A plant that absorbs nutrition from the air around it, making soil unnecessary. It usually has a grey/transparent appearance (doesn't glow), but will change colors to a purple/pink depending on the toxicity of the air.
Inspo: Tillandsia
The "light layer" is a layer of caves above civilization that is covered in plants. These layers often glow a brilliant pale white color due to the bioluminescent plants and have streams running through them. The central pillars of each city takes water from the streams, filters it, and then transports it to individual buildings below. The plant roots also function as a support for the soil above civilization.
The Main Chambers
The larger cities are located in dome-like caves with a central pillar supporting the ceiling. The largest of cities have entrances directly above these pillars, and there are elevator shafts and windows down the center. The pillar also functions as a water tower, transporting water from streams above to the city. There are occasionally skylights above the city that lets in light from the "light layer".
Buildings
Most buildings are either built into the walls, low and strong to protect against cave-ins, or pointed at the top and reinforced. Most buildings are taller than they are wide.
The "towers" are mostly government buildings and are located towards the center of domes. They are one of the safest locations to be during a cave-in. They have pointed tips that are reinforced with Daknan metals (one of the strongest substances in the world) to deflect falling rocks.
Plant Lamps
Most location with high populations will use "plant lamps", lamps filled with bioluminescent plants as a source of light for visitors. These lamps are placed on the walls, hung, or are sometimes embedded into the ground. In more hazardous locations, the plant lamps also have kana plants attached to them to warn people of any hazardous gasses.
Transportation
Dakna generally uses an extensive AI-controlled monorail system that connects different parts of the city and one city to another. The rails are equipped with sensors every few feet that scans for errors and accidents, making it one of the more prominent methods of accident detection in the tunnels. Upon registering an error such as accidents and cave-ins, the AI automatically redirects the monorail onto another track.
Water Veins
Most cities are built under the light layer and a central pillar extracts water from the water veins to supply the city. Similar to how a water tower functions, the pressure of the water as it flows down the central tower allows for easy pumping to deliver the water to the needed locations.
