After a three-years long period made by peaks and valleys with FreeStyle Libre 1, I decided that I wanted something more: a CGM. The most obvious option would have been the one of passing to a Dexcom device, but the shorter life time of the sensor held me back a bit. And, in a common afternoon of September 2021, a true blessing arrived for me.
Exploring the contents of my favourite diabetes-related youtuber, I first came in contact with xDrip+, an extremely powerful software which turned my FSL1 into a boosted CGM. But let me explain all step by step.
This tool basically consists of a program which, after having been installed into your phone through an apk which you can find at this link, can be connected to your glucose monitoring system in many ways which we will examine deeper in further dedicated articles (for FSL click here). If your device is a FGM, this app will turn it into a CGM for all intents and purposes, but, in my opinion, the process is extremely worth even if you are already in possess of a proper CGM, as the software widens the options and the advantages which a device like this can give you.
Datas will be delivered authomatically to you every five minutes, and, above all, you will finally be able to completely control the calibration of your sensor (you can find the dedicated article here), avoiding ance and for all those annoying inaccuracy issues typical of many sensors. Furthermore, if you possess a smartwatch, you will in all likelihood be able to have your BG values displayed on it: trust me, this is the ultimate way to always have your glycaemia before your very eyes, and there are many options which won't cost you a fortune.
Since this software can be complex to use for beginners, and its subtleties may be numerous and difficult to handle at first, I will provide many articles on specific areas of this program to help you set up xDrip+ in the way which you feel as better for you.
