We believe that ballet is not just for children and teens. Everyone and every body type can learn, progress, and experience the joy of movement. What makes our studio unique is the emphasis on adult ballet training.
We offer adult classes year round, seven days a week. Most classes are held in the evenings with the exception of our advanced classes which are held at 11:00 a.m. Mondays, Fridays and Sundays.
Fill in our registration form in the Studio Director link under the Sign Up tab to register with our studio and receive weekly emails with class changes and updates. We request that you select your classes every Sunday for the following week by filling out the Google sign-up form that will be included in your weekly email.
If you have never had a ballet class (or danced only briefly many years ago), you should start with the 10-week First Position series of classes. These classes are progressive and will teach you ballet posture, positions, correct muscle engagement, and terminology. These series of classes are held approximately 3 to 4 times per year.
If you have had many years of ballet training but are coming back to it after a lengthy time, we recommend you start in the Ballet IA or Ballet I classes. Your instructor will consult with you after your first class to discuss appropriate placement.
All of our classes other than First Position are ongoing classes that you may join at any time. Our First Position series must be joined at the beginning of the session (offered every 12-14 weeks).
We do not have a reception area so you wil be asked to remove your street shoes upon entering and sign in on a sign-in sheet with your first and last name.
We have two restroom/changing rooms if you need to change out of your street clothes for class.
Our classes follow clasical ballet technique progression. In First Position your instructor will inform you what to expect prior to the start of your first class.
You should wear clothing that is not constrictive and allows you to move freely. That being said, the more form-fitting the clothing, the better your instructor can assist you in finding correct ballet posture and muscle engagement. Hair should be pulled back from your face and secured so it does not fall into your eyes.
You have 30 days to make-up a class from the date that you missed. Your instructor will let you know the appropriate class to take as a make-up.
Learning movement is a very individualized process. Instructors will advance students individually into different levels. It is important to understand certain concepts and terminology before moving into intermediate/advanced classes.
After completion of the 10-week First Position series, most students move into our level IA/I classes. Some students choose to take more than one class per week. The more classes a person takes per week, the faster the progress. The more effort you put into your classes, the more progress you will see.
You may pay either electronically (Venmo or Zelle) or with exact cash or check. There is a discount for paying with cash or check.
We ask all of our students to inform their teacher if they have any acute or chronic condition that can affect their movement. Your instructor will inform you of modifications so that you can continue to dance.
Parking is abundant and free at The Ballet Studio.
