The Library of Care is essentially a publicly available online resource that we hope can support arts workers* in:

  • Better understanding concepts around care in artmaking processes; as well as

  • Having concrete tools that can be applied immediately to current and/or future practices and projects.

  • *If you are browsing this library from outside of Singapore, we hope this is useful for you as well and we'd love to hear your thoughts about what is more helpful / less helpful in your context, but our current focus is on developing content for Singapore's context!

In developing The Library of Care, we:

  • Drew content from existing resources in the arts and other fields (with credit acknowledgements)

  • Developed new resource content through research and discussion

  • Included anonymous and attributed anecdotes from real people working in the arts in Singapore, as relevant to the topics

In the long term, we hope that this becomes a resource that is helpful for arts workers regardless of how familiar people are with care and/or their role or standing in the arts.

However, for this first phase of its development, given limited resources and capacities,

  • the team has chosen to focus on content that is more relevant for Self-Employed Persons (i.e. freelancers), because as individuals with no organisational backing, freelancers are more easily subjected to abuses of power and harassment at work.

  • Within this limited scope, we acknowledge that there will still be gaps in the work since the team is also still learning more about care, so we strongly welcome all feedback and suggestions.

For future iterations of the library, we hope to add more topics and also to include care practices for organisational contexts - if you're interested to find out more about our plans and how you can support us, you can click the tab below!
