In order for a petition to be reviewed by the Committee, it must be submitted by the deadlines listed above. If you have any questions on the contents of a form/s, please email Ashley Riley at ashley.riley@tufts.edu
Please note: petitions must first be initiated by individual applicants, and an endorsement by an academic advisor or DGS is required for submission. All supplemental materials must be submitted by the deadline, and all endorsements must be received by the deadline. The GSAS Executive Committee will contact an applicant if additional information is required.
International students should contact the Tufts International Center with visa questions or extension requests.
The petitions for the January 6th, 2026 Executive Committee meeting are now OPEN. The deadline to submit these petitions is January 2nd, 2026.
Petition for Extension of Time: Petition should include an endorsement from the student's academic advisor (or the DGS, if the applicant is not currently assigned an academic advisor). The endorsement should indicate that the student is (a) making sufficient progress toward degree completion; and (b) if granted an extension for the requested amount of time, the student is likely to complete all degree requirements within that period. If a student is applying for reinstatement in addition to extension of time, the applicant should only complete the Petition for Reinstatement, as the Extension of Time form is limited to actively enrolled students.
Petition for Reinstatement: If the applicant is petitioning for reinstatement and will also require an extension of time, please complete the Reinstatement form only. There is a section within the Reinstatement form for those who are also interested in being considered for an Extension of Time. For international students, the reinstatement petition must be submitted at least three months prior to the requested reinstatement. International students should contact the Tufts International Center regarding their deadlines.
