Hackathon: The Future of Global Learning

About us

We are a group of eight students and two lecturers from the Faculty of Management and Organization at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, and we are organizing this international Hackathon with the theme The Future of Global Learning’. We wanted to find a way to tackle topics such as internationalisation and online learning in an interactive way, not just in a traditional conference setting.

This is where the idea of this Hackathon was born. Combining both the opportunity to share and generate new ideas for our challenges to shape the future of global learning for students and staff.

What is the goal?

This Hackathon, compared to others, is not a competition. Our focus for this Hackathon is on the creative process, sharing best practices and connecting around the topics of online learning and internationalisation. As we say "The true value of this Hackathon lies in the journey, not only the final products ".

When is it?

The Hackathon will be on the 20th and 21st of May, 2021. Both days starting from 13.00 o'clock till 17.00 o'clock CET.

Who can participate?

This is an international event where teams or individuals can register. The Hackathon is open for both staff and students to participate.

How does team registration work?

There is a minimum of 4 members and a maximum of 6 members per team.

Teams who sign up for the Hackathon need to indicate and rank their choice of challenge. In other words, you can rank your preferred challenge (1= first choice, 2= second choice 3= third choice). The teams will be assigned to the challenges accordingly. Please note that you may be assigned to a challenge of your second choice or third choice. We will do our best to organise the teams according to your choices.

How does individual registration work?

Participants who register individually will be placed into teams with other individual participants according to their challenge preference.

Participants who sign up for the Hackathon need to indicate and rank their choice of challenge. In other words, you can rank your preferred challenge (1= first choice, 2= second choice 3= third choice). Please note that you may be placed in a team of your second or third choice of challenge. We will do our best to organise the teams according to your choices.

How does the Hackathon work?

During The Hackathon you will have the opportunity to listen to experts in the field of international education and attend informative workshops and feedback sessions aimed to stimulate, inform, and inspire!

The teams will be working on potential outcomes, creative ideas and solutions or practical applications (what we call 'the Hacka-outcome') to their specific challenge. Through the creative design thinking process the teams will provide, at the end of the hackathon, a product in the form of a playable format (video or pre-recorded PowerPoint). This product will give a brief explanation of the team's perspective on the challenge and the Hacka-outcome.
