HACKATHON

Proposition

Looking back at the past year and especially considering COVID-19, we began to wonder about the future of education and the possibilities that online learning may bring for the internationalisation in our education. This is the reason forThe Future of Global Learning’ as topic for this Hackathon.

Our focus is on the creative learning process and the exchange of ideas and perspectives between educators and students. We are proposing three challenges to be worked on (hack) in 2 half days. Workshops and creative timeslots will be provided to the teams in order to work on their challenges and group process. At the end of the Hackathon the teams will have brainstormed, conceptualized and produced a Hacka-outcome that could be a solution to their challenge. However, the true value of this Hackathon lies in the journey instead of the final product.

Hacka-outcome

The challenges are broad and thus is up to the teams to find their perspective of underlying issues that need to be solved. Through the workshops, informational sessions and by own research, the teams can develop a Hacka-outcome. This Hacka-outcome needs to be presented in a playable format (video or pre-recorded PowerPoint) at the end of the Hackathon. This playable format is the team's product for the Hackathon.

The product will present the underlying issue that the team is tackling and the Hacka-outcome that the team develops. This product must be between 8 to 10 minutes long.

Workshops

During the Hackathon the participants will be able to join different workshops in order to give them more insight on their challenge or on how they want to present their findings.

Hack-spiration

The main informative session for the specific challenges. During this session the participant will get data, perspectives and scenarios that are of influence in their challenge.

Workshops

During the workshops, participants will receive tools and knowledge they may use during this Hacka-journey. You may use them during the brainstorm process, Hacka-outcome or making of the product.

Inspirational hackable

These are sessions where students or lecturers provide their practical experiences in projects or research related to the challenges, as new input for the participants. This is meant to give tangible examples of the challenges for participant who need to relate the broad spectrum of the challenges to a more concrete idea.

Digital logistics

This will be an online Hackathon. In order to keep the flow of information during the Hackathon as clear as possible we will be using a combination of Microsoft Teams and Miro. On the Miro page we will be placing all relevant informational links needed to make the programme structure as clear as possible. The links needed to access the different workshop rooms will also be available on the Miro page.

For those who have never worked with either Miro or Microsoft Teams instructional videos will be provided on the basics required for a productive Hackathon experience.

Additional information

The Hackathon is meant to be a fun and interactive event for educators and students. Everyone will have the possibility to voice their opinions during the challenges. This is a great opportunity for educators and students to voice their views on the different topics. This Hackathon is not a competition, but this does not mean that you can’t stand out with your team by providing everyone with great new insights about your challenge.

In order to appreciate each other's work during this Hackathon, the participants can nominate teams for a light-hearted peer-to-peer award in different categories. Participants can select from a number of categories and award a team.

During the event there will be moderators present to assist teams regarding the event, logistics (entering online rooms, how to use Miro, where to find a break-out room etc.) and other matters. In the team strategy meetings throughout the programme, moderators will check in to see if the teams have any questions.
