Challenge 3

How can we prepare students for the changing needs of the globalised job market and society?

One measure of success in the workplace is a graduate’s ability to use the knowledge, skills and attitudes that match the needs of a job. However, being more competent in e.g. problem solving skills, team working skills, intercultural skills (global skills) may give graduates an advantage in their prospective work setting.

Employers are also looking for students with global skills, the right attitude and international experience who can contribute to tolerance and intercultural understanding in their organisation. To be an asset in this ever-globalizing field, it is a duty of the educational institutions and the work field to prepare the students for the requirements that are expected of them once they join the work field. What are these expected requirements? How can these requirements and expectations be quantified and communicated? How can educational institutions stay up to date with these changes? How can the students assure their value for this international space? How can the development of global citizenship shape the professionals of the future?
