I-69 in Arkansas

Overview

Route Description

The route enters in the south of the state from rural Louisiana northeast of Shreveport. It follows utility ROW to El Dorado, (SIU 14) where it uses US 82 Bypass to bypass the city, before going on a new alignment through densely forested areas. It emerges near Crosett and follows US 465. It turns from a utility ROW and has an interchange with I-530, the only freeway in the state it meets. It follows the newly opened Monticello Bypass before turning to prime cropland, which it traverses before following US 165. It follows, with the occasional concurrency, US 165 to DeWitt, where they diverge and I-69 turns east, traversing wetlands. (SIU 13) It emerges and turns northeast to US 49, and goes double deck on the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Helena Mississippi River Bridge into Mississippi. (SIU 12)

Why it is needed

This route, in Kentucky and the rest of the route, is required to send trade from Mexico to Canada, and the Southern Southwest to the Great Plains. The area served also has low quality roads and access would decrease costs for farms in the area.
