Injury Prevention

An estimated 45 million youth and adolescent athletes will participate in sports each year, with sports-related injury being one of the most common types of injury in adolescents. Despite the majority of injuries having a low severity, there are risks of injury that come with loss of participation, hospitalization, and increased healthcare costs such as those requiring surgery and rehabilitation. Many of these injuries can be prevented through proper equipment, rule changes, educational information, and most importantly pre-season and in-season prevention programs. The partnership between the William S. Hart Union High School District and Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, has allowed the athletic programs access to design and implementation of evidence-based injury prevention programs targeting high risk injuries for particular sports and populations.
