At this time I have done 2 internships in 2 different companies over the summer. One at the end of my first year at Rubika, and one at the end of my second year.
At Vertexa, I was the only artist for 2 months, working with a game designer/programer and several doctors. We were asked to make a small virtual reality game that helps with eating disorder. I spent the first few days analysing the different parts of the prototype, discussing new workshops and the artistic direction of the whole world. I then spent the rest of the time doing modeling, unwrapping, texturing, rigging, animating and much more to help make this world a reality. I will be showing the pieces one by one but if you want to see it more in action, here is a link to their LinkedIn where they regularly post the game and how it is going : LinkedIn
The workshops happen in different rooms on the Island. The outside of the houses were already done, so I was tasked of doing different interiors.
In here, the player had to create meals and serve them to someone. This would then show them how it affects different parts of the body and let them compare the calories of these. Making them realise the importance of a meal and that not all meals seem so bad.
This acted as a Hub for the player. They would get to see trophys apear and their room slowly start to become more alive with the work they do. They would also get questions on how they feel here.
In this room there is a workshop where a manakin appears infront of them. They will have to put frabric and yarn on the manakin to create what they believe is their silhouette. Then the game shows them the places they were wrong and right.
A little room for some quick thinking activities that are made more fun in this environment.
The game being place on islands that each have one or two activities, I had to make textures to allow for this. They adapt to the environment and the activity.
As the game is in VR, a player sees their own hands. We decided to make various different gloves for this that dont show a base skin colour. Theres boxing gloves for the boxing room, a baseball glove, a fishing pole, butterfly net, and of course the base hands. The base hands are adventure gloves to make the player completely immersed in this world.
I present to you BOB. We call him this but in game he will not have a name to not attribute a gender. I was tasked with making Bob from zero to final. He is a companion from the start of the players adventure to the end. Bob will show the tutorial, show how to do some activities, be fed in some other, and even me the yoga teacher.
This was a challenge as I had to make sure he fit in the world, seemed friendly, had no gender, had human proportions, and was well enough rigged to do complex movements in yoga. The design changed a lot. At first we thought had just glow in the dark eyes, then just a mask, or just a hood. After a lot of research he came to this. An adventure style, no mouth to rig, and a friendly face still.
A month later I got to work on Bob again, and he now has a face!
In my internship I was charged with the task to make the model of a small market that a person could visit in AR. The market was inspired by the concept art above. It was done in a few weeks, it is fully unwarped and some textures have been done. This was my first time modeling something so big in such a short amount of time.
