CONTEXT & BIG IDEAS

CONTEXT

This project is to be carried out by two groups of 6th graders (11-12 years old) from Barcelona and Chicago. In each group there are thought to be 15 students whose level of English and Spanish would be a B1 according the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Moreover, so as to make it more centered to language and less attached to curricular limitations, this project is thought to be held in a language school where the number of students tends to be more reduced and all of them are supposed to have the same level of a certain language.

BIG IDEAS

Learning can take you anywhere project aims to work with kids who are learning English and Spanish. This project fosters learning about a new country (its weather, food, art...etc) and travel-related concepts while using English or Spanish as the main language. Both groups help and correct/teach other interdependently. It is thought to be carried out during 7 sessions of an hour and a half, which implies 6 weeks of lenght.

The project is telecollaborative based with students who are learning English and Spanish, located in two different countries (Barcelona and Illinois). This project fosters language exchange and also works with technological tools for educational purposes. Some of the topics chosen to be developed regarding travelling are monuments, traditions, weather, art and geography among others.

We want students to know and realise that travelling is a source of learning thoroughly enriching and fulfilling from which they can take advantage of. On top of that, we want students to discover the wide variety of technology tools with which they can work in many different ways. Given the fact that in such a globalized world technology is growing its importance day after day, as teachers we are responsible of giving them tools to be prepared for the future.
