Slides is one of my favorite Google apps. It can be used in so many creative ways. It isn't just for presentations although that works too. I have enjoyed so many student projects and creations over the years using this awesome tool! I hope you enjoy them too.
This was shared with other educators for contributions in preparation for a survey. The survey data is to show others how to build an infographic. It is color coded blue represents teacher needs, yellow represents student needs, and Green is a marriage of the two.
Build a reservoir of background images to tap into throughout the year for different themes or projects, as story starters, and more.
What kid doesn't love comics or graphic novels? Students are introduced to comic concepts like gutters as they create stories with comics. Sometimes they create everything from scratch other times they may find imagery online. They can also use my how to videos as a resource for extra support or review if needed.
Responsive Classroom FAB Constitution. Have fun! Acknowledge Responsibilities! Belonging!
An example to show how you can use ,crop, and recycle the same image to give each scene a different feel.
Students learned about image files like png and jpg along with some underutilized tools as they created avatars of themselves.
These creations were later used in many projects like comics, stop motion videos, and as Sprites in Scratch a free and awesome coding platform.
Since we were on Zoom. I decided to create a Zoom room using avatars from class. Students chose a favorite project from the course and linked to it using their avatar. This is an image not the active hyperlinked file.
You can their comments at the end of class, something they learned or something they wonder.
A follow up activity to learning how to make avatars is practicing the skills again. A second chance to demonstrate learning while researching a person, place or thing. The focus changed each quarter based on current events or what they were learning about in other classes. Students that showed growth in learning had their initial grade updated to match this one.
Just can't put this into words. So impressed with the work my students have done. These examples are all made from scratch with Google Slides.
Students use a map of our classroom, aka "The Motherboard." as they navigate the landscape. Finding their assigned seat is rolled into a binary to decimal conversion activity. The map is later used as students create algorithms working in groups. They are given a point A and point B address location. They are tasked with working together to write an algorithm for others to follow to find point B from point A. This leads to discussions around finding different solutions to the same problems.
Master Slides are awesome! Think of them as customized templates. You can create digital handouts so the backgrounds don't move around on your students. I like to include directions in the margins for reference. Go ahead, click on the insert new slide "+" and chose a background, or use the layout option to change it.
This one was for my elementary music teachers. Students would chose the slide to insert into their project. Then they would copy, paste and organize the music note png files as "stickers" or as I like to call them digiforms. The png files are not part of theme builder as that would lock them onto the background. Instead they are added as an already included slide so they can be copied and manipulated.
Another theme builder idea was to create trading cards. Students or staff can use these as a getting to know you exercise or to share their research on a person, place or thing.
