Hello, World!

When Imagineers at WED Enterprises were developing EPCOT Center, they had a plethora of themes for pavilions. Energy, transportation, and nature were but a few of the themes they had picked, but when there was an open plot of land still available, they knew they had to make good use of it. That was when they noticed the discussions about CommuniCore. There were a lot of ideas for displays and exhibits using computer technology, but too many for them to settle on. It was then that the team realized this was the key: computers.

Computers were a new technology that was burgeoning into the consumer sector, and the capabilities of a computer were a marvel to the general public. Here was a future new and dawning in front of humanity's eyes, changing with each new advancement. It was a piece of tomorrow that anyone could appreciate. Thus, the matter was settled. What would have been EPCOT Computer Central instead became the Imagination Station, giving guests a tease of the upcoming Imagination! Pavilion. That open plot of land would become a gateway to the amazing world of computers, known as The Database.

Thanks to a sponsorship courtesy of Texas Instruments (which had made a name for their extensive developments in the field of electronics, such as with the successful debut of the TI-99/4A home computer in 1981), WED Enteprises was able to design a pavilion that both entertained and educated the public about computers. Of course, much like computers themselves, this pavilion would change and evolve over time. So, let us take a moment to witness the march of technology present within...
