Exterior and Queue

Both the exterior & the queue of the ride (named after the film it's inspired by) is based off of the movie's main location, the Plaza Hotel. The exterior looks like the image above. The queue is a somewhat loose replica of the hotel lobby's set, With several Home Alone 1 & 2 references added (& a lack of any reference to someone who will not be named). The ride begins with guests entering the hotel's plaza, where they will board their ride vehicles (which are somewhat inspired by Omnimovers) that resemble topless limousines. Each vehicle holds 6 guests. The experience uses plenty of simple effects and painted flats to give this a really classic Mr. Toad vibe.

Ridethrough

The attraction uses the framing device of Kevin telling the story of his time in New York City to his family after the fact, which explains the more dreamlike nature of the ride floating from scene to scene as well as the simpler/cheaper effect. Plus, some small bits of narration can help bridge the gap between scenes wherever it isn't clear.

The first scene takes place in the airport with a lot of flat silhouettes of travelers rushing about. They are all well over-sized to give guests the feeling of being a small child in a confusing environment. Plus, it sets the chaotic tone early on.

The second scene winds through Kevin's dream hotel suite! It is already in the process of being trashed with pizza boxes, candy wrappers, shaving cream, empty ice cream bowls, footprints on the bed, and more debris from a child going crazy there! At the doorway, Tim Curry's hotel manager character stands looking disapprovingly while trying to get gum off of his finger.

The third scene takes us through the streets of New York at night with snow on the ground as we pass by the empty house of Kevin's uncle. Off in the distance, we can see the Bird Lady on a bench feeding some pigeons. This scene is a quiet one meant as a brief breather.

The fourth scene takes place in Duncan's Toy Chest. This is a short scene since guests can visit the store for real in the land. There is a lot of kinetic energy here with toys coming to life and Christmas decorations all around! The shopkeeper is offering Turtle Dove ornaments to guests saying to share them with someone special. Hidden in a life size gingerbread house, The Sticky Bandits can be seen scheming!

The fifth scene is a brief moment in Central Park at night where we see the Bird Lady smiling holding the Turtle Dove Ornament Kevin gave her.

The sixth scene is an extended sequence of all the traps going off as Kevin outsmarts and defeats the Sticky Bandits! This is a longer scene since it is the highlight of both the ride and the movie!

There are swinging paint cans, dancing manikins, falling bricks, Marv getting electrocuted by a doorknob, Harry with his head on fire, and so much more! Nearly every trap and contraption from the first two Home Alone films is represented here in some way with a tone of crazy, kinetic energy surrounding guests! All the effects are very simple, yet there are so many of them that it makes this section truly come alive!

The attraction ends with a quick wrap-up of Kevin's family in the hotel room happy to see him enjoying Christmas. Kevin's room service bill weaves around the room like the Naughty/Nice list in the attic of Haunted Mansion Holiday, adding one last gag to the otherwise heartwarming ending.
