The Cometbots's primary goal is to increase the interest for math, science, and engineering in the students of our area. Every year, the Cometbots participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition. In this competition, the team designs, builds, and programs a robot that must complete an assigned task in six weeks. Students have the opportunity to learn so much as they speed through the six weeks of the “build season.” After building the robot, the team will travel to two district events to compete with other teams from Virginia, Maryland, and DC and have the opportunity to qualify for the District and World Championship.
When not competing, The Cometbots engage with the community to spread the FIRST Mission and Values within their communities. They work with community groups to provide demonstrations and presentations, collaborate with their local school districts and youth organizations to provide STEM curriculum and camps for elementary school students, mentor local STEM and Robotics Clubs.
